I have been searching for the answer to this question and so far nothing. I hope someone can shed some light on it. My mother-in-law bought me a really pretty piece of dead (dry) coral for my tank and I was not sure if it is good or bad for my tank. It seems porous and I am not quite sure what it would do to my water.

absolutely perfect to put in your tank as long as it's clean. just be careful if the store had any chemicals they cleaned their shelves with....

As Reno said as long as it has not been exposed to any chemicals you should be fine

I would soak it for a few weeks in freshwater just to make sure it's clean, changing the water once a week and then put it in the tank.....Dead coral is a great substrate for frag bases..
