if no fish in a tank are infected with ich for the whole life cycle of the ich in the tank wont the parasite just die off without a host?

I'm not sure i get how your sentence is worded.
Are you saying there are fish in the tank and then wondering if none of them show signs of ich, then the ich have not found a host and the cycle will be disrupted?
If there are fish in the tank and there was ich in the tank, whether or not you still see it, the ich is hosting on your fish.

This is always overlooked.Just because you don't see it ,does not mean it just packed its bags and left.
