I am looking into a RO unit, my question is:
"Is RO water ok for a tank with fish, corals, inverts and LR or do i NEED the RO/DI to be sucessful?"

Your water quality can never be too good and I would go with the RO/DI filter. The price increase is minimal.

I agree with Deep Blue.
RO is great - less expensive than just a DI unit but uses a lot of water.
DI uses less water but requires more cartridge changes.
RO/DI is what I bought and I weighed the cost against the 99.9% excellent water quality. To me it's worth the cost to have really good water - less headaches.

I will go with both just to be safe.
went you add a Deionization unit to a R.O. unit you improve your water quality.

it depends on the orginal water sorce, i mean if you have good well water i think a ro unit will do pretty good, if you have bad water quality before you install the unit then i would get the ro/di, what you can do is buy a test kit for phosphates and silicates, and metals, if the test comes back with bad results, get the di, if its good, dont waste ur money on the di
