LED Light Question

That light is merely accent lighting, it may be doable for low light corals. I have seen the light in action and it is not that bright.

When going with LED's, I recommend using a fixture that has 3 watt bulbs. The one watt bulbs simply do not put out enough light for reef tanks. They are suitable for FO.

OK...so is that a NO....LOL....This is the tank I toss all my kenya in....I also tossed is a stray red mushroom, and a stray brown zoa polyp
right now it has 2 of the 10W Coralife 50/50 mini compact fluorescent bulbs in it......so are you saying these LEDS would have less light

Shrooms would probably be fine, but that's about it.
+1 on what Gemmy said. How they compare to the compact flourescents I don't know, but considering the blues aren't even driven at 1W...

Meo,
I use a nano tuners Par 38 bulb, I think it has 6 bulbs in it and it runs at 4.2 watts per bulb.
i beleive they use the cree lights in there as well. made by evil 66
it covers my 10g frag tank and the colros are spectacular. Eventually i'm going to go with several of these over my 120g

Meowzer, the bulb mentioned fits in a standard socket and is essentially five LED's set into a bulb shaped heat sink. It is a simple "bulb" that has light output notably equal to metal halide, i.e. it is incredibly strong. One hobbyist on central is using 3 of these bulbs over a 56 gallon column and is experiencing phenomenal sps growth.

So are you saying it can fit into a desk lamp socket? Or do you need to buy a special light to put it in

They will fit in any standard socket. Most people use track lighting systems to house them (as long as they can house PAR38 lamps, which are larger than the standard incandescent).

IMO the 5050 bulbs you have are perfect for the kenya and mushrooms. If you want to go to a frag tank where you are growing out some SPS and LPS then looks into the new.
2x24 t5 light fixture can be had for under $100.
PAR 38 bulbs are around $90.
If it were me I would do the t5's for a frag tank.
