I am looking into a UV sterilizer for a 54 gal corner bow... my question is it connects between the return pump and the tank... will this inhibit my water flow going back into the tank? i just made a pvc inlet tube to help with my water flow at the bottom back of my tank... will adding the Uv Sterilizer on the same inlet line slow down my water flow? if so what should i do? i don't wanna run another pump from my sump to the tank cause it will run dry then

Problem is...for the UV to work correctly (kill pathogens) the water flow through the unit must be fairly slow. Unless you put a 'T' in your return line to divert a small amount of water through the UV unit you will have to use a separate pump IMO.

so should i hook it up to a powerhead or i saw one with a built in pump that is fully submersible
Personally I like the one with a powerhead because if the powerhead dies you replace the 'cheap' powerhead...if the 'all in one' unit dies you are replacing the entire unit.

Something like a minijet 404 will work just fine...What I did when I had a uv up was run the minijet from inside the tank throw the uv unit very slow and the return into the return section of my sump.
