My 15 year-old 90 gal LR-deep LS-happy everything has a continuing issue with Cyano Algae.
I suck a lot of it with my WC but it always come back.I have never used any commercial chemical advertised for this condition
What about laying a new "carpet" of LS on top of the cyano algae? Would that smoother the pest for ever or would it grow back?. Thanks

It would just quickly grow back.
Attempt to find the cause and fix it. Then the Cyano will go away fairly quickly. The most common causes are:
Low waterflow
High Phosphates (overfeeding)
Overstocking
Undersized skimmer
