Raising light fixture without hanging??

Is there a way to raise the current 'outer orbit' 48" (model 1077) fixture without hanging from my ceiling? The 4" legs are just too short. I would like to be able to at least lift the glass lid.
there has to be a way...

I just made some taller legs from a couple pieces of plywood.I just put them together with s-c-re-ws.They are ugly,but they work.
