Reef Photo Question

Hey All
So, I was trying to get pictures of my "2 Headed Feather Duster" when my old camera finally quit. Anyway, since my old Camera is dead, I figured this would be a good chance to get a new one!!!
(My firm also doesn't have a camera for documenting evidence, so this would be a good chance to kill two birds with one stone.)
Anyway, I was looking at a new 12.1 MP Canon Rebel... I think it should be good for photographing my tanks, but I really don't know anything about cameras...
Does anyone have a recomendation for a good camera for reef photography?

I really like my canon t1i, but I have not learned how to use it yet. It takes a nice picture on the auto setting though. The kit lens is just that, a kit lens. But with a little know how and a good lens, it is a great camera for about 700 including kit lens. It also has 1080p and 720p high def video.
