i was wondering if there is a ratio or rule of thumb that you go by for the gallons of what a refug holds to what the D.T holds? In other words how many gallons should My refug hold for a 45 gallon D.T.?

i've not read any study on that yet. i haven't heard of anything either.

i don't think it's the size of the refugium so much, as how much macroalgae is in it and/or dsb if any. the more algae, the more nutrient export.

Agreed. My 150gal D.T. has a refugium that hold around 8 gallons. It is very shallow thus creating alot of surface area maximizing the lights abililty to aid in macro growth.
