Refugium?

I have been doing fowlr tanks for just over 2 years with success (so far). I want to try making my new 300 gallon a reef. My question is, What is a refugium and is it required for the reef set up?

it is not necessary to hv it. but its got good benefits to hv one. for example, most people run macroalgae in it, so ph stabilizes more and u will hv less chance of algae growth in ur main tank. also, it a good place for pods to thrive.

It is not required but extremely helpful. YOu can put all of your filtration, heaters, skimmer, etc in the sump/ref making less 'eye-sores' in the tank itself.
If you an afford the setup (anotehr tank/pumps) then i would do so.

The refugium is inside of the sump.
