RO vs DI Water

i live in New York City and we have pretty good water quality... i was looking into getting a RO system in home depot for fairly cheap (around $150) (i don't have a lot of money to spend and plan on using it for drinking water also) this filter seems economical.... any difference between just RO or just DI water if i had to get just one???

Well first off you could get a really good quality RO/DI system for $150. Check out **************. If you do that then you could just get a tee with a valve between the RO and the DI so that you could use it for drinking water and water for your tank.

There is usually a difference. Most RO membranes are not very efficient at removing Phosphates and Nitrates. Typically they remove 99% of everything else but only 70% of Nitrate & Phosphate. You can buy RO filters that can remove 90% or even more, they are only slightly more expensive but they do not last nearly as long.
For $150 you should be able to find a decent four stage RO/DI filter online. But yes, NYC has good water.

I dont have DI just RO. we drink from ours and appearently DI isn't tasty or someway not as good for drinking.

The DI part is just pure water. all of the nutrents you drink have beed filtered out. Now I dont know if it is bad for you. But really is not all that good.
