Rookie Started tank today

Hello everyone I have been reading this forum for awhile now and finally started my tank today. Please bear with me in this process I am brand new. I snapped a pic of my 55 gal I have not yet decided what is going to go in it but soon enough I will.
I do have on quick question should I be running my filter while the sand is settling?

What type of filtration? And probably, it will help clear out the larger particles faster

I have a Marineland Penguin BioWheel 350.

Is that an alright filter? I was told that it will work great I am not doing reef.

Looks like a good start! I would run it. It will help it clear up faster.

Sound like a olkay filter to me. Are you going to get a skimmer?

should I get a skimmer I will if it's needed.

You could prombly get by without one, but If you can get one get it. It will help you out alot. What kind of fish do you plan on keeping?

I am think about adding about 10 lbs. of live rock and 20 lbs. of base rock and I have a bunch of dead coral that a buddy gave me. Then after that I was thinking about adding a clean up crew. Once the live rock spreads. After all of that I will add fish but it's going to be awhile for sure. Will I still need a skimmer?

As long as you keep your water parameters good then no. Might want to still wait on others oppions since I'm still a newb. But if you can get one than I would get it. And If possibl get some more LR too.

I just setup a 55gal a couple weeks ago.

skimmer is not absoultely necessary, but its helpful.
