Spiderweb looking stuff

About every 2 weeks we get a bunch of spiderweb looking stuff coming off our LR....the emerald crabs seem to eat it, but it is nasty looking and my clown fish is none too thrilled when swimming through it....nobody is dying, everyone is accounted for in the tank...water properties are fine....and it only comes off the LR (not any particular piece - all of it)....any ideas???

Do you by any chance have cleaner wrasse, they spin a web to cover their hole they are sleeping in.

Messy eaters and somwhat unsightly
Look for their little tubes. They are putting out "spider webbs" to trap food. Quite harmless and a sign of a healty system, but they can become numerous. Get a bunch in my tank.

It could be your feather dusters. Mine just did the same thing. for a couple of days, it seemed as though it was coming out of the live rock at the same end as the feather dusters. It finally stopped and later that day my feather duster lost it's crown. It should grow a new one back. But I've been told that they can do this from timt to time.

I think it is Vermetid Snails. I first too freaked out when seeing these webs "shooting" out from lr. I also had lots of little tubes at the bottom of lr. Now there are everywhere, including my return elbow. It's just trying to trap food, so it's harmless.

The messy snails have it i guess....i checked the link trailer gave me, and the web is similar...although i see no tubes where the gunk is originating.....i do have to say if these snails are catching food, the emeralds and sally are enjoying it before they get it....thats for sure....thanx all

I was going to post but looked at the link too and I don't know but tonight about an hour after we did a water change we noticed a bunch of mucous looking stringy stuff coming out of a rock cave, looked like a lot of it and it was the cave that the brittle star hides out in but the brittle star moved. Do you think I have the same thing? That stuff was shooting way up high in the water. <img src="graemlins//eek.gif" border="0" alt="[eek]" />
