wave maker

what are the advantages or disadvantages of having a wave maker in my reef tank? also will it affect a seahorse negatively. I did a search on here couldnt find any definative answers

Wavemaker is benefical in a reef tank, but as far as the seahorse issue.....as far as it being in a full blown reef I'd have to say you'd have issues....being the flow factor used in a reef enviroment vs. a seahorse tank itself.....the ability to feed and for the seahorse to compete for food would be my other issue.

ok so what does the wave maker do for you

If I could add a question to the OP ... what is the advantage of a wavemaker versus using a timer to turn different pumps on & off?
And ... is it bad for the pumps to be subjected to being turned on/off?
