When you buy a new fish...

Do you do your research beforehand so that you know what the fish eats, how it behaves etc?
I see so many questions here about *what will he eat*. Isn't a bit backwards to ask that once you already have the animal? What if the fish is a picky eater, like a Mandarin and you put it into a newly established tank with very little copepods in it. If you don't have any at hand, how quickly could you starve the little thing? All that just because no research was done. Sorry, I just don't get it

I totally agree. I see alot of people start a tank and say I bought this, how should I take care of it. Not the way to go about it.
