Someone tried to steal a bat ray from SeaWorld once. Workers found it in a freshwater pond inside the park. They figured someone tried to make off with it and decided they couldn't go through with it. They ditched the thing not realizing they dumped it into a FW reservoir. IIRC, it was returned to the bat ray lagoon and survived.
One of the trainers told us the story when our daughter was in one of the shows.
People will steal anything.
