As long as you have an adequate overflow to carry the water from the tank to the refugium, you can control the flow through the refugium with the return pump. If the flow through the fuge is too low, turn up the pump until it flows the desired amount. 4 - 6 times the water volume is a good flow. If you're overflow is only allowing 50 GPH, then you'll never get the flow you want. You want at least 100 GPH though the fuge, and probably more if you want the algae to move.No it's the refugium I'm talking about. Inside the refugium the flow doesn't move the algae at all, they won't be happy with that. It's only getting the 50gph from the overflow.
In my display I have plenty of flow.
Not trying to dispute BG, but everything I've gathered, for a refugium to work properly, you have to turn over the water in the tank 4-6 times per hour. This is not the flow in the tank. It's the flow out and back into the tank. 50 GPH is a trickle... lol!I used 1/2" and followed the directions to a T.
Bang guy says I should do 8x the volume of the refugium, which is about 50gph.
