So for my tank I will end up getting a RO/DI Dual Outlet Drinking water/Aquarium Filter Core System Clear Housings 75G and I dont even know what this does or how it works so how does it?????
So in simple teenager terms it means that it makes the water more pureRO filters out impurities in the water that have molecules larger than water but using the house water pressure to force the water through a membrane. A lot of water is needed to flush the impurities away from the membrane to prevent it from clogging so you only get a gallon of clean water for every 4 or 5 gallons of source water. This RO water is excellent for drinking.
The DI has ionized beads that remove anything with a ionic charge. The result is nearly pure water. This water is excellent for your aquarium but it also makes very fine ice cubes and coffee ;-)
You should use RODI for water changes and top-off as well. Tap water has so many impurities, such as silicates that support diatom growth, phosphates that algae love, and nitrogen compounds that are toxic, that it is a big mistake to use it unless you have unusually good water coming from your tap.wait so can I use this water for water changes
