I am in the market for a MH setup. Right now I have a small tank (45), but will be upgrading to larger tanks in the future. If I buy a 400w MH ballast, could I use a bulb of lesser wattage, say a 250 watt bulb? What would be the impact of running a 250w bulb on a 400w ballast?

Make sure usre it is aquarium silicone. regular household silicone can contaminate your water, permanently.

The emperor is only a regular bio filter with two carbon filter packs and bio wheels. My tank is 45G with @45 lbs LR and @35 lbs LS. The picture below is from today. You can see the blur from the film of algae that grows on my glass everyday.
