Same here. I know this is an old thread. My sump has black walls. Doesn't get any light except some red led from my algae scrubbers. My filter media is saturated with the stuff. It is below the skimmer intake, and doesn't appear in the DT. I do get a rust color on the glas that doesn't come off...

Okay, all my parameters are great. It opens up at night and looks fine. Every few weeks during the day it looks like this. Is this normal? Dinoflagellates maybe? No problems anywhere else in the tank. It has shade and great water flow.

How do I get rid of the hair algae? It really isn't under the lights directly, there is a live rock ledge above it that shades it. I've had it in several different places in the tank and it seems happiest with the flow where it is. It has been growing new shoots. I put in some fresh green algae...

It gets nice and big at night about every other week for four or five days. It just started growing this "hair". Is the hair normal?

Thanks - it probably is silicone. It is clear. Just nervous about ruining the whole thing! I have some good blades from a dreadnought my husband doesn't use! I'll go real slow....

I am replacing my red sea protein skimmer with a Tunze. There is a piece of glass that they epoxied in to hold their skimmer in place. It's about 1"x4" on the back glass wall of the sump. Any help on a way to remove it safely? It's in the way....

Does anyone have any opinions about algae turf scrubbers in the sump in lieu of a media rack to help control Cyanobacteria or algae outbreaks? I intend to put a Hog1x in the sump between my protein skimmer and outflow pump instead of a rack with a variety of filters, etc...
