    filtration equipment

I believe you guys are right, I will stick with what I know and use the wet/drys on my new setups, just have to figure out how to get a new 90 gallon tank into the house with out the wife seeing. Haha. I have heard of the screen idea before and think I might try that with one of my other...

    filtration equipment

Got a question. I've mostly been doing marine tanks 55 gal and under. Only one of my tanks have I ever used a wet/dry setup, the rest have been canister or box filters hanging off the back. I've never had problems so I am confident in how I run my tanks but I am going to be setting up a...

    substrate

do you think a ph stabalizing product would work with it or do you think that it would be a recurring problem? I use proper ph 8.2 in my reef tank and it is right on the money but I have never tried the 7.5 or 7.0 for freshwater.

    substrate

I know how much everybody loves crushed coral for substrate<lol> But I got a bit of extra cc and was wondering what the effect would be if I used it in a freshwater tank. Cleaned extremely good to get any salt residue off of course.

    One Bad Night

i say go acrylic... I've got an acrylic 55. It's a few years old now and I've got two leaks. Both are at the top so I can't have it filled to the brim like I used to. I would be able to reseal it during a water change but I just haven't had the time. If the same type of leak developes at a...

    Emerald Crab & Cleaner Shrimp?

the cleaner shrimp is a very peaceful animal, the crab you mention is considered semi-agressive. I personally have never seen one attack any of it's tankmates, but I have read on other forums of people having problems with them fighting with bluelegs and other dwarf crabs. As long as you kept...

    water changes

Reefnut is on the money, the only thing that evaporates is the water itself. You still need to get the waste out of the tank. There are microscopic particles of nasty that hang in the water, when the water is gone the nasty is still there. You have to physically remove water to remove those...

    firefish

I found the tank dimensions, 11 and 3/8 wide by 7 and 3/4 deep by 14 and 1/8 high. I don't have the dimensions of the filter but I wouldn't think if would be more than 4 inches wide. I would think that if they send a whisper filter with it a bio would fit. PS, I was just reading up on newer...

    Horrible weekend!!!! :(

I was watching americas funniest videos a couple nights ago and this kid had his bicycle in the room and knocked it over. The handle bar went right throught the tank side and emptied the tank. Everyone was laughing and all I could think about was those poor fish and all that money lost. Keep...

    firefish

should i get the little tank filter that every1 seems to have or should i get the mini bio wheel? I'd look into getting the mini biowheel if you can attach it to the tank. I'm not familiar with how much space is available in the minibow 2.5. If you buy that tank new I believe it comes with a...

    size of tank

just looking for a clarification on the sizes of tanks, we got micro, nano, pico, and femto, right? what would you put as gallons for each of these tanks, cause I've seen every size from .75 gal, up to a 90 gal all refered to as nanos. I'm not crazy or anything. Here are the definitions that...

Type of Lighting Do i Need?

I'd still shoot for the 30 watt range. 3 reasons, they'll grow better, they'll look better, and you still have the option of other corals later instead of just the coralline

    saltwater rookie seeking advice

In reference to starting our with such a small tank, I'd say it comes down to the type of person you are. If you are willing to take the challenge of a small SW tank go for it. Here's the differences in big and small from a very basic point of view. Big is more forgiving in water quality...

Type of Lighting Do i Need?

If you are planning a wide variety or corals I'd say you should shoot for around 50 watts total. A CF or VHO setup would be great on a 10 gallon nano. You might be able to get away with a light in the 30 watt range since it's a shallow tank. But I would rather have the 50 or better.

why do people say bio-wheels suck?

if you dont have a 200g tank with like 10 55g tanks sitting around and some $200 fish your not worthy of this hobby. "we're not worthy, we're not worthy" Any Wayne's World fans? Anyways, I started my first SW tank, a 55 acrylic, with a box filter and an undergravel filter with bubblers not...
