Lighting for a 125 gallon, FOWLR tank?

What is suggested for a 125 gallon FOWLR? Keep in mind although the tank is 22" deep, I will have 6" of sand and a 1" top gap so the water will only be about 15" deep. I do not plan on any corals (I have a separte reef tank) but I do plan on some type of algae or sea grass to grow in the tank...

IS this Live Sand of Algea Sand???

A statement like this tells me that a DSB might not be a good idea for the inexperienced reefkeeper...im sure they are good and can work great under the right conditions (especially when youve read books on the topic), but I think in general...and excuse me if im wrong..a DSB might be dangerous...

IS this Live Sand of Algea Sand???

Well, as I said above, just because some, typically those who have no experience with using the dsb methods of reefkeeping, cannot get their intellects around the idea that dsb's do and have worked for decades for many many people, and that these are usually the most vocal people on the...

BTW, don't vaccum the sand like you would crushed coral.

IS this Live Sand of Algea Sand???

You want very very fine sand. To maintain the dsb you need to do several things. You need to keep appropriate critters, such as different pods, worms, snails, mini stars, etc in the sand to stir the sand deep. You can get these from several vendors that sell livesand (real livesand with...

HELP!! my orange linkia not well!

Well, first if it is in a 29 gallon tank, the tank is too small and it will likely starve for lack of adequate food. Second, have you recently placed it in the tank? If so, it may have aclimation shock. They need a very very slow aclimation around four hours. They also need plenty of...

    EcoSystem Aquarium Filters ? . ? . ? .

I have the eco 40. I love it, it works great. However, I am not convinced that it is any different than making your own refugium. The only real difference is the mud, which supposedly has minerals and such in it. If you want, you could make your own refugium and buy ecosystem mud to fill it...

IS this Live Sand of Algea Sand???

Keep the DSB. It should be at least 4" and upto 6". Make sure you know the facts before you start making any major changes. There are many very qualified people who strongly support DSB's, including Shimek, Boremann, Frayley, Fenner, Calfo, just to name a few. Read any book or thread by...

    Tang Police, Need some Advice.

So, just the kole? What about a yellow, or hippo? What about a desjardini? And, is it the consensus that I could not get away with any of them in a 65 gallon? Or could I still get the same tangs in a 65 as in a 90?

    Tang Police, Need some Advice.

Bump. Thanks for the opinions and advice so far. Any one else have their opininos? Not to knock or discount those I have but I have learned enough to know to seek out several opinions and tried and make an educated decision based on them all. So far my on-line research is showing about 50/50...

    Tang Police, Need some Advice.

What about a White-Cheek or Powder Brown Tang? I have read places that recommend a minimum of 80 gallons for them? Also, you mention long term. I guess I never thought about it, but is it possible to have one for a few years and then trade it in for a smaller one at the LFS? Is this...

    Tang Police, Need some Advice.

Hello All, I am currently contemplating upgrading my reef tank to either a 65 gallon (36"L * 18"D * 24"H) or, a 90 gallon tank (48"L * 18"D * 24"H). I would go, no brainer, with the 90, but it will be a bit big for the space. So, size wise for the room, the 65 seems the better idea. However...

    help-eco-system question

I have a hang on ecosystem 40. I got it roughly two + years ago and have yet to change any of the mud. No problems yet. Its no different than using sand in a tank. Do you change 50% of you dsb every year?
