    Hydrometer Issues

Thanks for the help everyone...I finally figured it out last night. And, when I say 'I', I really mean my wife since she thought to see if there were any directions on the SWF.com page for the solution. Sure enough, there it was, saying that with the solution purchased, you don't calibrate to...

    Hydrometer Issues

I did mean that...thank you Noah...not sure what I was thinking. I also purchased the calibrating solution available through SWF.com.

    Hydrometer Issues

Yeah; I tried twice...both times, the levels came out exactly the same. I didn't have to turn the screw either way both times. I made sure the glass was clean and dry before re-testing too. Not sure what SWF's return policy is but I'm guessing I'm stuck with it if I got a lemon. :-(

    Hydrometer Issues

In preparing to do hyposalinity in my hospital tank, I purchased a refractometer from this site. Once it arrived, I calibrated the device and went to use it on the tank. However, when I looked through the device, the salinity line was well below the 0 ppm line that was supposed to be the...

Diagnosis Needed (Lighting Change = Cyano?)

Just a quick update on the situation... After running the tank without any lighting for the last few days, I have still not seen any major decrease in the cyano. It's not growing (which I guess is good), but it's not going away either. My 3 Mexican turbo snails are trying but can only do so...

Diagnosis Needed (Lighting Change = Cyano?)

@beaslbob: That's currently what I'm trying now (i.e. no lighting), however it's been over a week now and it's still not decreasing. The growth seems to have slowed, but it's not going away like I would have thought. @ajroc31: How much more agitation do you think the surface would need? As...

Diagnosis Needed (Lighting Change = Cyano?)

Thanks for taking the time... I have never tested for phosphates, however since I am not using RO/DI water, I'm sure that was part of the original problem. At this point, it appears that the cyano has killed off any potential growing places for the hair algae. Regarding feeding, when it’s time...

    Hosting with Algae?

I have one False Perc., among others, in my 72 FOWLR. Not sure if this is a good thing but, just recently, my clown has started hosting a small patch of hair algae I've let grow for some other tank inhabitants. As anyone else ever witnessed this? On one hand I'm happy for him as he obviously...

    Humu Question(s)

That really surprises me about urchins. I was figuring that they would have been one of my best bets against algae on the rocks. But, I guess that's why you ask the question, rather than just trying it. So, with urchins out of the picture, what kind of clean-up crew are people using with...

    Humu Question(s)

From the sound of it, it appears that 72g is enough room for a Humu, but only just. And, tankmates may be hard to find. This is ok, as I was anticipating him being the centerpiece of the tank. What I don't want, though, is to add mates that will be miserable by his presence and attitude...

    Humu Question(s)

I'm thinking of converting my 72g bowfront FOWLR into a semi-aggressive tank. This would be my first attempt at raising this species and just want to make sure I have the right environment and equipment for them...Question #1: Can a humu live comfortably in this size tank? Question #2: Given...

    Question about Angels

I failed to mention earlier that I am planning on the tank being a FOWLR, so corals are not a concern at this point. The three I have been paying the most attention too are the Coral Beauty, Flame and Bicolor. But, at this point, I am open to all suggestions. Either way, it will be a dwarf...

    Question about Angels

Preface: I have a 72g bow that currently houses 75 lbs of live rock, 20 lbs of live sand, 35 turbo snails, 2 emerald crabs, 1 cleaner shrimp, 1 green chromis, 1 diamond-spotted goby and 2 percula clowns. Question: I am considering adding an angel to the group, but I am slightly worried about...
