Why do most put the refuge in the middle chamber? This does not make good use of the fuge. Or does it?

Ask and see if you can pay more and up grade the lights. If you dont do it now you will later if your not into FO.

I also have a 54g corner. I fit a sump, corallife skimmer(hate it), fuge, and a media filter. All store bought nothing customized. But I must say if it is not in there just perfict the door will not close.

I went to Jager as well. But to me the key is the Ranco ETC Prewired Digital Temperature Controller single stage. If your heater sticks to the on position the Ranco will cut the power until the temp drops below the set temp. Just hooked this up in both my systems

At the LFS they put clowns and anenome in a 6"x6"x6" mesh box for this reason. They have had some success but who really know if the clowns would of taken to in a big tank.

According to what I have read replace the sand. Save a few cups from the upper layer and throw the rest out.
