If you absolutely have to have fish in there... you could probably get away with 2 trimma, 2 spikefin gobies, or 2 gold nosed eviotas... don't get ANY clown gobies at all though... too small of a tank...

the last fish is not a prawn goby... the name is deceptive... spikefin gobies do not pair with shrimp.. I dunno what the black with white stripes one is though.

Ok I got to thinking... its a small tank.. I dunno if all the powerfilters are the same, but if not.. use the highest flowing one and put it on one of the small sides of the tank and set the tank up peninsula style if you can... the put the canister intake on the opposite corner of the same wall...

That's a definitely a sick tank... your bf is definitely a good guy for buying you one and then a replacement after that mishap..

I'd find a away to get the heaters in the canister if possible... or trade around for an inline heater to go on the outflow of the canister. if you turned the canister into a fuge with a submersible light, that'd be cool.. one HOB with carbon... the other with a bag of rowaphos...
