    Baffled

I don't think there is any stray voltage. I had my hand in the tank several times and didn't feel the slightest tingle. As far as the oxygen level is concerned, an increase could only be beneficial as far as I know. I had to visit my lfs to get more pre-mixed salt water. I explained what had...

    Baffled

The pump straight out of the box appeared totally clean. I saw no oil or anything else on the pump or in the water. Could the additional surface turbulence have changed the oxygen level. I do have a glass cover over the tank, but that didn't change. Nothing changed but the addition of the...

    Baffled

Hi everyone. I am hoping someone out there might have had some experience with my strange problem. I decided to upgrade my Koralia 1 powerhead with a Koralia 2. I received the new pump yesterday and replaced the smaller one with the new one. I aimed it slightly up toward the surface to create...

All Glass Mega Flow 4 question?

I have the same problem with my megaflow 1. When I watched it, the only time it leaked water was when there was a large bubble that came down the overflow pipe and caused sort of a splash as the water entered the top chamber. I solved my problem by tilting the cover so that it sloped down into...

    Coralline and Crabs

OK The crabs are Marshall Island Electric Blue Hermits (calcinus elegans). Wherever they crawl on the rocks, the coralline vanishes and the rock turns white or back to its original color. I never ran into this before the crabs were introduced. I don't have any fish that would do this. The...

    Coralline and Crabs

Hi all I have some live rock with beautiful coralline growing on it. I just added two blue leg hermit crabs. They are quite small, but I have noticed that where they crawl on the rocks, the coralline is vanishing. I thought they ate mostly green algae. Can I expect them to completely remove...

    Fish And Light

Thanks for your interest and thoughts. In answer to some of the questions, I checked the salinity in the bag the fish was brought home in as well as the tank. They both measured 35 ppt. The tank has been set up for 3 months. The only inhabitants I have are a Diamond Goby,Firefish Goby and a...

    Fish And Light

I have a fish only tank with a low wattage regular fluorescent light for viewing the fish only. On two different occasions, I have added a new fish that was eating in the LFS, but when I introduce it to my tank stopped eating. I have three other fish which I have had since I started the tank...

    Refractometer and water temp.

Thanks everybody. This is all getting very interesting and is making sense. I think the best thing is just keeping the refractometer at room temp, then all the readings should be accurate. I am sure glad I replaced my hydrometer.

    Refractometer and water temp.

Thanks for the input about temperature. I just kept thinking about it and it didn't make total sense to me. I can understand using the same temp water for calibrating the instrument though. Great to know I can always get some good feedback on this board. Norman

    Refractometer and water temp.

Another question for the experts! I keep reading that the water temperature should be the same when testing two different sources for specific gravity. It would seem to me that adding 3 drops of water to the refractometer would immediately change the water temperature to the temperature of the...

    Garlic Treatment

Thanks for the fast replies. I think I should try the Kent product and keep some handy. Soaking food in the fresh oil would probably also work. If I ever cure anything with it I will be sure and post a message.. Norman

    Garlic Treatment

Hi, here is a simple question. I hear a lot about adding garlic to the diet when a fish is having problems. How do you do this. Do you soak the food in garlic. Do you chop the garlic very fine and sprinkle it in with the food. I don't have any problems right now, but I would like to know...
