that's a good thought. I did add the salt to water but it was only about 50 gallons to 125 gallons worth of salt. once it's full it should be 25 gallons worth of salt short. do you think it will clear up once it's short or salt or am I shanked from the get go for adding so much? thanks for your...

    new 150 with skim milk

four days... pretty frustrating. do you think that extra milkey stuff is additives or tiny salt particles? I've done a million water changes on my 70 and never had this problem before. granted its never been that much water/salt.

    new 150 with skim milk

I'm starting up a new 150 gallon tank and I can't get the salt to fully dissolve. it's RO, uv sterilized with instant ocean salt. PH is ok and I have a 500 gph pump circulating in it. I can't distinguish salt crystals in it because they're so fine. anyone have any ideas? I can turn off the...

That's good information. Like yours, mines getting bigger now than in the FS. Now that he's settled. I always use a test strip in the FS water bag when I bring new things home and boy their waters bad. I guess it isn't terrible but compared to mine which is pretty high, it surprises me. He...

Smoking Flowerpot Coral - Goniopora sp

Hey, that's a lot of good information. She finally opened up a little later on in the day... about 24 hours after purchase so all seems good now. The mucas seemed to be comming off his entire body. Is that good or bad? It hasn't happened again since as far as I can tell. Is it normal for...

    Sponge Identification - semi aggressive???

yea, mine doesn't bother the coral either but I just figured it was because the coral was stinging it away. I'd love to see a picture of yours if it's easy. I may trim it back so it doesn't get to out of control.

    Sponge Identification - semi aggressive???

Does anyone know what kind of sponge this is growing underneath my Galexia coral? Is it harmful? Seems a bit aggressive as it's doubled its size in the last 6 months. It does however create a nice strong base for the coral... ha!

    Reef Tank Upgrade Process?

I'm thinking of upgrading my 70 gallon reef to a 125 gallon but would like to know a successful process to do it. It will be changing locations from my office to my living room so I can have the two tanks generally set up. I'm planning on just replacing my tank and stand because my light...

Smoking Flowerpot Coral - Goniopora sp

Hey, I purchased a Flowerpot Coral yesterday and this morning he seems to be releasing a white mucus that resembles cigarette smoke into my tank. He's pretty much closed up while doing it but yesterday he opened up about 25% right away and seemed happy. He's been in the FS for about 4 weeks...

Blue Ribbon Eel and a reef

Hey guys, I have a 70 gallon reef up top and a 25 gallon refugium below on my setup and I was wondering what would happen if I relocated my Blue Ribbon Eel from the sump below to the main reef up top? The reef contains: Flame Angel, Blue Hippo Tang, Yellow Tang, Mandarin, Percula Clown...

    EAT Copperband EAT

jeeze... I guess my copperband decided to never eat... he must have been picking stuff off the reef because he lived quite some time (4 weeks) without ever witnessing him eat. However tonight is his final night I think? He's fluttering and barely alive in a small bowl full of EVERY type of...

Is my RO water really RO'd

Oh, I'd say about 7 weeks. I've just been trusting my RO/DI also but now I'm starting to wonder. Will a UV get rid of diatoms? I'll let them go for another week or so before I get totally irked

Is my RO water really RO'd

My tank is breaking in with the diatom stage and I've been reading about how important it is not to add tap water to the tank because that basically feeds the diatoms. I've been using RO water ever since the beginning with a 7 stage RO system that even has a UV sterilizer built in but my...

    Looking for UV Sterilizer?????

I was wondering about that turbo twist, is it hard to keep clean? Seems like if the twist tube got dirty it would be hard to clean. Do you think crud builds up along the path and makes it less effective over time?

    Algae problem... jeeze

Over the past 5 or 6 days I've been fighting this algae bloom in my tank and I can't seem to figure out how to get rid of it. I think it started when I added some Coral Excel which I've now stopped. My water quality is really good and I've been doing 20% water changes for the past two days but...

    EAT Copperband EAT

I recently purchased a Copperband Butterfly and he won’t seem to eat. I see him picking off the reef every once in a while but he won't take anything I give him. Does anyone have any ideas about how to get him going? My water is excellent and he seems very happy swimming around, just ignores...

    Thin STUBBURN "dying" green algea

Hey guys, my tank is only about 2 months old and a thin green algae is starting to cover some parts of the tank. It doesn't seem to scrape off when I scratch it with my fingernail and almost seems to be dying the live rock. It has a slimy feeling to it and it's not coralline or anything good. I...
