How long can a protien skimmer be turned off for?

So I've begun raising live brine shrimp for my tank, but I'm worried that the protien skimmer might be sucking up the baby shrimps when the eggs hatch and they swim out of the hatchery. It takes a few days for all the eggs to hatch so I'm wondering if I had my protien skimmper off during this...

    boring cleaner shrimp

Maybe by your pump and heater is the only place in the tank it feels safe? If you have your rocks stacked in a way that you create multiple caves, it may wonder around to the different caves in your tank (mine does this).

    Culturing brine shrimp

I just started doing this myself. At my LFS they had a brine hatchery that goes inside the aquarium and you connect it to an air pump, the bubbles inside the hatchery cause the eggs to hatch and then the fry flows into a chamber where they are able to swim out into the aquarium. Kinda neat, and...

    Saltwater feeder fish

I've seen some cool vids of dendros literally grab brin swimming by. I don't have any dendros (yet) but judging by the way I've seen my duncans and open brain welso grab food, I'd imagine a live brine shrimp wouldn't stand a chance ;')

    Saltwater feeder fish

Well yeah that's true about brine but since the OP said he doesn't have anything that *needs* live food I only suggested it more as a want than as a need. Also after watching videos on youtube of corals catching and eating brine I'm wondering if introducing live brine shrimp to the tank would...

    Saltwater feeder fish

I don't recommend feeder fish since with feeder fish you run the risk of introducing diseases or parasites to your system. If you really want to feed your tank something live, you could buy live brine shrimp eggs that hatch pretty quickly. You could raise them in a separate kit (which I've seen...

There must be ****** in my saltwater!

Yeah Im beginning to think maybe I just have a bad test kit... I would imagine that if my alkalinity was as high as the test kit says it is, my fish would be showing signs of stress and/or my corals wouldn't be looking so happy.

There must be ****** in my saltwater!

I dose to maintain proper levels of calcium, magnesium, iodine, and PH. I heard that PH buffer could affect hardness, but I only use the buffer when the PH falls below 8.0, which is usually only once a month. I do have an alkaline buffer but I haven't used in in a long long time.

There must be ****** in my saltwater!

Normally I make 25% water changes usually every 2 weeks and once in a blue moon I would make a 50% water change. I use saltwater purchased from my most trusted LFS.

My saltwater fish keep going belly up.

I can't think of any harmful shrimp, but the Chocolate Chip Star is a coral eater and Green Serpent Stars could catch and eat sleeping fish. Other than that I'm not sure what they could have meant by that.

There must be ****** in my saltwater!

Because my water gets harder and harder every time I test it! Seriously though, whenever I test for my water's hardness, the water seems to be harder than the last time. On the instructions it states to bring the hardness down, I need to do a water change, but every time I test the water the day...

Junk tank. Is it salvageable or garbage?

Yeah it was... but I thought it'll be worth it since it was free... but after soaking it in vinegar and scrubbing it all day I just up and said F it I'm buying a new tank lol.

Junk tank. Is it salvageable or garbage?

Ha you should have seen it when I picked it up! It had 4 large freshwater fish of some sort swimming in water so green it looked like the wheat grass shot health nuts seem to love. I had to put the fish in a bucket and donate them to an LFS before I got the tank home... It stunk so bad I had to...

Junk tank. Is it salvageable or garbage?

Ok so last year when I was first looking for a tank, my brother-in-law's friend gave me his 90 gallon show tank for free (he was desperate to get it out of the house). The tank itself is in sorry condition IMO. Although the class is thick (about 1 inch or so) its scratched up pretty much...

Will my established Y Tang bother a new Diamond Back Goby?

Like others have said there is no 100% way you can know how fish are going to behave when a new fish is added to the tank. Even fish that are listed as being friendly and compatible according to the charts may fight (its all just depends on each individual fish's personality). Having said that...
