    UPGRADED!!

I have a loofah-type material in my overflow and it does a great job with sound/air reduction. I also have a set of valves on the piping that allows me to adjust the water flow so that the water isn't going down faster than it it's coming back up into the tank, leaving my overflow empty enough...

    Fish suggestions?

Of course, for a fun fish I never could find one to top a Midas Blenny. They find a hole in the rock to call home, then swim out and change colors and act silly. They go from a dull yellow/peach, to a vibrant canary yellow in a millisecond. It's amazing to watch.... And they spend the whole day...

    Tank Raised Fish?

I can see that. The Hippo Tang is rated for a 150 gallon tank though, and I will be designing my reef so that the fish can swim all the way around the front and back, and not just the front. So hopefully it will be fine. The literature I read here on this forum on the "fish to avoid" list, cited...

    Tank Raised Fish?

I have been do a whole lot of on-line browsing trying to determine my final fish-list (wish-list, lol ) for my new 150 gallon. I am going to build a softie reef... I would rather have a lot of small, very colorful fish, than a few large ones.... My question is about tank-raised fish. Some of...

    Yellow Assessor

On the Live Aquaria website. It's a neat little cross-referencing chart.. When you look up any fish it has a link to see the chart in the spec.'s. I plan on getting a Yellow Assessor for my tank when it's ready too :) I'd like a Blue one as well.... Compatibility chart says it's dicey but I...

    Rock arrived gross :(

I also gently scrubbed the rock because that is what the Live Aquaria website says to do after curing and die-off before putting the rock into your tank..... Lightly scrub and rinse it.....

    Rock arrived gross :(

So I am setting up a 150 gallon tank. New sand, old biologicals in refugium and sump. Hubby arrives home last night with 90 pounds of live rock purchased from Craigslist. Open the buckets and the smell nearly knocked me over!! I immediately filled my 2 kitchen sinks with saltwater. Put the...

I've got a couple of questions please??

I really wanted to try and build a softie tank. They are so beautiful when done right and according to my research don't have such a demanding nature when it comes to light or calcium levels. Xenias and Mushrooms and such......

Forgot to ask, since I kept the original filter media and mud and plants from the sump/refugium , it should be a quicker cycling time right??

Sooo glad I found a place like this to pick some brains and share highs and lows..... I will start by saying that my marine experience, to date, consisted of a 55 gallon FOWLR tank that took a really long time ( and lots of learning) to work the bugs out of, only to have to sell it due to a...

I've got a couple of questions please??

I just bought a well-established 150 gallon tank. I have had a 55 gallon FOWLR tank in the past, but hubby decided he wanted a reef tank this time and I figured we'd go bigger than before....... The seller kept the rock and coral, but left everything else. I saved the water in the sump and...
