If I were you I would ask my lfs to sell you water, sand & rock from their tank. This, in my opinion is the fastest way.

My lfs has 2 for sale right now for $40.00 each.

Anyone ever thought about DIY chiller? I have a buddy who knows about refridgeration. I think it can be done. Your thoughts?

I smoke. Is this bad for fish? I don't smoke inside the house and I try to wash my hands before I put them in my tank. I've suspected that this was a toxin. Is that right? Thanks, JP.

I am going to swap it out for a new one. The vendor was great and told me that he has heard of this problem alot with this brand. The manufacturer doesn't seem to care at all. If the replacement doesn't solve it I will be buying a diffent brand. Thanks for the input. JP.

Not comming on at 75. But I've seen it kick on at 76 so go figure. I bought a regular thermometer and that is saying my water is at 80. I'm not sure what to believe. I have this in my tank and I am taking mesurements with my digital at the same place.

Does anyone have any experience with this heater? My tank is 80 with my digital but this heater is telling me my water is 75. Am I loosing my mind? :confused:

Thanks for the response. Even with the increased wattage I can expect the fans to remove alot of the heat? I'll try it and let you know. I just don't want to spend 500 on a light only to have to spend 750 on a chiller. Thanks again. JP.

I can't seem to get my temp under control and I just can't buy a chiller. Here's what's happening: My temp hovers around 81.5 in the day but after dinner when the temp should be going down it creeps up to 83. After I shut everything down it goes back to around 81. I don't have a light...

For adding water due to evaporation which water is better: Distilled or R/O? I am being told that distilled is much better and I can get it at the store for .40 per gallon. If I must use R/O then I would need to make the water myself. Any thoughts?:eek:
