    white wormy thing?

Well, I've seen my first unidentified object this afternoon - I've had my LR for almost a month now. When I came home this afternoon there was a 2 inch long wormy thing - looked like a thin string with "arms" coming from both sides - kinda like this: ||||||||||||||||| [hr] |||||||||||||||||...

    beginner's lighting question

okay, bummer, Now, any tips on where to buy the most economical VHO system for a 33 gallon tall hex? I was thinking of going with just a piece of plexiglass/glass or eggcrate across the top and the lighting strip set on top of it. The tank is 36" long. We're planning on upgrading to a...

    beginner's lighting question

This may be silly, but.... does a VHO light fit into a standard fluoroscent strip? I really can't afford to buy a totally new light system at this moment....

    I need some kind words...

I'm planning on buying my LR on line - and, as there's nobody living in my tank yet, I'll just put it in and endure another cycle - hopefully just a small, short one.

Clint - I'm all ears, what's teh theory? This is the first go round. I had freshwater for 10 years, tore down my tank a few years ago when my kids' sports schedules got too insance. Now I have a few extra hours a week and set up my tank as a SW. Patience has never been my strong point, so this...

Thanks aarone - If I research and plan and wish anymore, my hubby is going to KILL me! I'm the kind of person that researches constantly (almost to extremes!). I've got my list of cleaners all set to go, I know how much LR to buy and where to get it, I've got my fish all planned out, my QT tank...

My husband vetoed my new bigger, better tank cuz of the $$$$$ AND, my 35 gal tank that I'm cycling is stuck - so I'm bummed about that too. My ammonia dropped to 0 last Thursday - pH, SG, temp, ammonia - All looking great, but the nitrites haven't budged since then. Sooo, I'm sitting here...

Hope this doesn't sound tooo stupid

Hi, I'm getting new tank next and I'm confused with regards to a canopy and a hood. Is one better than the other? Do canopies come set up to put lights in them or do I have to drill/screw/hammer - etc (we're not very handy around here).

    RO systems

It's a four stage filter. We change it whenever it slows down to less than a gallon in a minute - approximately every 4 months or so. Can I use the TDS strips for my spa? Are they sensitive enough - I guess what I need to know is how much TDS am I looking for to be bad?

Actually, it's www.garf.org - took me a while to actually find it again after I stumbled across the website originally.

    RO systems

I was browsing a site tonight and ran across an RO system - I had freshwater for years and my water was always perfect coming out of my water filter and now I think I know why - it's an RO system! Maybe not but it sure looks identical to what the websites are selling- same cartridges and setup...

    I am now soooo confused

The answer to what to fill the tank with is fake rock - looks nice - and you can then treat your tank with copper - the BEST way to treat illness - so he says. I had pretty much come to the same conclusion you all have- he's trying to make money! He outright told us that they make no profit on...

Thanks, guys - how 'bout one more round of ??

I'm checking out the sump info now. I'm pretty sure I'm going with the pre-drilled, although I have a line on a used tank that isn't, but we'll see - the owner hasn't gotten back to me yet with answers to my questions. As far as the grunge - I've got the original 8 pounds coming on Tuesday, so...

    I am now soooo confused

I'm planning on cycling with shrimp and then adding LR - so as not to have as much die off on the LR. Definitely planning a QT - don't want to use my 33 though - not enough room in my home. How small can I use? would a 5 or 10 work for small to medium fish? as my fish get larger, I could worry...

    I am now soooo confused

Thanks everyone. I've decided to go with the reef-ready 125 gallon from the LFS. 200 pounds of southdown seeded with some GARF grunge - not sure that I need to seed it with their recommended $200 worth, but I think I will at least double what I was going to use in the 33 gallon. I'll have 60...

Thanks, guys - how 'bout one more round of ??

Thanks for the encouragement! The plan is to use Southdown - I was going to add another 150 pounds (giving me approximately 200 pounds) and then seed it wit the GARF grunge. I'm curious if I should actually mix in my current sand, though. It's starting to get covered with diatomes - and I...

Thanks, guys - how 'bout one more round of ??

Thanks for all the info/feedback tonight. Now for just a few more ?? We've decided to go with the 120 gal tank with LR and activated sand - I've got an order for 8 lbs of grunge from GARF (for my 33) so I'll need more for the 120 - do I really need 32 pounds? (not sure I can afford $200 of...
