    A happy clown....and a problem

My display has T5s on it with individual reflectors. Should be plenty of light except that the anemone was hiding in a cave for two weeks! All parameters are fine except that nitrates are a tad high from 3 weeks without a skimmer. They've been coming down and were at 40 when I put the anemone in...

    A happy clown....and a problem

The QT has regular fluorescent lighting, 20 watts in a 10 gallon tank. I know that the anemone MIGHT have been ok in the DT, but I really think the butterfly was picking on it and I didn't want it to die. I still need the marroon in QT for another two weeks! I only put it in the QT to save it...

    A happy clown....and a problem

Two weeks ago I purchased a gold striped maroon clown and a GBTA. The LFS told me to put the GBTA right into my tank and I have the clown in QT. The GBTA immediately moved to the deepest darkest spot in my tank and I hadn't seen him until two days ago when he started moving out. He looked...

All I want for X-Mas is to SEE my anenome

That's all I want too!! My brand new GBTA is wedged in a cave! I can't believe there's enough light in this cave at the back of my tank to make him happy, but he hasn't moved for 72 hours. Any thoughts?

Red Stop Light Cardinal - Apogon erythrinus

I do WANT Anthias, however, I"m not sure that I"m up to the feed 2 or 3 times a day regimen. I'm more a "feed 5 or 6 times a week" type person due to my work schedule. Will fish eat if my lights are off? (I generally feed in the evening when my lights are on) I could get up to feeding each and...

    is my sand toxic???

I'm using filtered tap water - can't afford an RO/DI (husband lost his job recently), but this has been going on for a few months? Ammonia is 0, nitrite 0, nitrate <5, pH 8.3 to 8.4, sg 1.023. The only thing off is the phosphate at 0.2 which won't come down no matter what I do. Would a diatom...

    is my sand toxic???

Help! what could be killing my snails and why won't my tiger cucumber clean my sand! My sand looks horrible. It's not clean white - it's got a brownish algae on it - it's not slimy algae or red cyano - it just looks dirty. I added two queen conchs in my tank 2 months ago - never saw them again...

    Tiger cucumber question

I added a tiger cucumber to my tank 4 weeks ago. He immediately climbed up onto a small mushroom rock and stayed there for three days. I never saw him again, until today. BTW, my sand still looks horrible, so he's obviously not doing his job. Today, I found him about 8 inches up from the sand...

    Flame Hawk in NJ -

He's fighting with another flame hawk - long story about how THAT happened. He was in the QT with a bicolor and they seemed fine. The hawk is actually a little timid, the bicolor picked on him for a few hours when they first went in and then they were fine for the last four weeks.

    Flame Hawk in NJ -

I have a beautiful flame hawk that has been in my QT for four weeks. He needs a new home desperately - he's not getting along with the fish in my display, so he needs to find himself another home. Any takers in New Jersey or the tri-state area? $35?

    Two flame hawks?

I have ended up with two flame hawks and now need to know if they can exist in the same display tank? We thought we'd lost my flame hawk when we went on vacation a few months ago, so I bought a replacement. Two days later, I found my original flame hawk hanging out in my overflow!! - he'd been...

    Feeding a Bicolor

thanks for the suggestions all - still begs the question, though, will my angel ( and the tangs and emperor that are still to be added to this tank) live on a diet of just macroalgae? if I can't get them to eat anything else? I'd be less worried about adding them to my display if at least they...

    Feeding a Bicolor

I've got a new, beautiful bicolor angel. Had him for three days! He's doing well, so far. I haven't been able to get him to eat flake or frozen yet. He nips at it and then spits it out, so I'm hoping I can find the right thing. He has, however, totally eaten a few pieces of macro algae that...

    macroalgae

I just set up a refugium and received a bag of chaeto and caulerpa. So, what do I do with it? Do I just place it in the refugium? bury it in the sand? I'm not sure what to do next?

    Is my tiger tail dead?

How does one know if a tiger tail is dead? I put one in my tank on Wednesday afternoon after a 3-1/2 hour drip acclimation. He moved to the base of a mushroom rock, curled around it and hasn't moved. I just moved the rock a bit and he's still curled/attached to the rock?? I don't want to bother...

How large a tank for an eel

Fishy411 Thanks for the suggestions. I'm sure I'll ask for more advice as soon as I do some more research for this tank. Now I have a place to start! Kathy
