    Temperary chiller idea. Comments please.

My central air unit broke about 5 days ago. It gets really hot on the top floor of my 3 story building on warm days. I have 4x96 watt PC's and found that keeping a fan blowing directly on the water's surface at all times made a remarkable difference in keeping the water cool. My aquarium...

    CPR CS102 Overflow

If this is the overflow with 2 hoses to the sump, it works very well. Make sure you have an extra powerhead though. I didn't know when I bought it, but the syphon will probably stop frequently without having a powerhead suck out the excess air that accumulates with higher water flow. It...

    B-Ionic or Kalkwasser?

I replenish evaporated water with kalkwasser in the morning to boost alkalinity, and B-Ionic in the evening to increase Ca. I've found that kalkwasser alone doesn't really increase Ca as well as B-Ionic, but it is a better alkalinity booster.

    PC lighting

Upon further study, you're right RobinFly, you can't just add those numbers. I guess 5500K is tropical noon color (slightly blue-white, above water). Anything higher is bluer and lower is redder light. A 10000K bulb is moderately more blue than the 6100K bulbs, so I'm going to run 2 actinics...

    PC lighting

I'm at about the point when I need to replace my PC bulbs. I'm currently running 2 Ultra Actinic's and 2 6100K Daylight's. If I want my tank to look slightly more blue, should I replace them with 2 Ultra Actinic's, 1 50/50, and 1 10,000K Daylight? If my calculations are correct, currently I...

    Kalkwasser question

Thanks for the advice. I'll start the drip tonight and check my readings over the next couple of days. If I don't notice a significant rise in Ca, I'll try the additives you told me about. Would a sudden boost in Ca concentration affect anything negatively? I have a huge finger leather, a...

    Kalkwasser question

I'm going to start adding kalkwasser to boost my Ca in order to start adding some stony corals. I bought ESV's product and made it up with RO (I'm also using B-Ionic). It says on the label to add the solution after it clears. Anyone use this? Does this mean to wait for the undissolved...

    Disease in a Reef Tank

Thanks for the info. I have been feeding with garlic for a few days now, and I don't see any more parasites. What should my next step be? Should I take all of my fish out of the display for 30 days and treat them? Should I just keep feeding with garlic for some period of time and leave them...

    Disease in a Reef Tank

I know this is more of a Disease and Treatment question, but there seem to always be special rules in reefs. I have a Regal Tang that had been doing very well in my 90 gal for over 6 mos. After having to make a new stand for the tank, I put everyone in the tank through a lot of stress. About...

    Residual copper?

I need to move my tank to a stand that won't collapse, and have to set up a temporary home for my inhabitants. If I clean an old copper treatment tank real well, can I use it to keep my corals in for a short time? In other words, does copper absorb into glass or silicone? I don't think it...

    Snail question.

I've been reading this board for a while and have found it very helpfull. I have alot of questions about this hobby, but I'll start with this one. I've had my reef setup running for about 8 months, and have recently found some new snails that seem to be propagating. They have a long, white...
