    whats a good sea salt?

I trust this LFS because they have a quality store and have good people working there. Aside from them mentioning Oceanic over IO, I have had better results with Oceanic.

    Opinions on Pump?

Ya, I know.. It came with the tank and is permanently mounted below, after seeing how clear the water was when the tank was running, I think I'll keep it. In case anyone was wondering, here's what came with the tank: 150Gal Glass Reef Tank Tall :happyfish: Stand CoralLife Lights/Hood (not sure...

    uv sterilizer

I thought you don't want to kill everything in the water.. Aren't there beneficial microbes, spores, etc. in the water that get killed by UV?

    Opinions on Pump?

The Ocean Clear is a Canister based mostly mechanical filter that uses a filter element to filter very fine particles from the water, It works very well and has a space in the middle of the filter for carbon/Phosguard/etc. This link has a picture and a description...

    Opinions on Pump?

So if I go with your advice and make 2 drains. What kind of pump do you recommend? Something for 900gph right? Will the Ocean Clear filter be a problem? I do not know what the power heads are rated for, I'll have to get that when I get home. I like your idea, do you know where to look for an OTT...

The return IS in the overflow box also. A hose runs up the inside to 2 adjustable jets near the top of the overflow. That's interesting, make the return and the drain both drains? Then run return jets over the top of the back of the tank? I currently have 4 large power heads my friend gave me...

    whats a good sea salt?

A good LFS told me that they ran some tests on "Instant Ocean" salt by filtering it and they found it contained a lot of impurities in it. They did the same thing with "Oceanic" and found it had fewer impurities and dissolved better. I only use "Oceanic" now and it seems to work well for me on...

    Opinions on Pump?

Excuse my ignorance/noobness but, what is a sequence dart? There is only 1 large overflow in the back left corner of the tank. The built in overflow in the tank itself takes up a large space, about a 6"x5" rectangle. Water runs over the teeth at the top of the overflow and then there is a...

    Opinions on Pump?

I just bought a used tank from a friend, Its 150Gal tall. She used it for a Fish/Reef tank which always looked great. It has in the back a built in overflow (reef type?) through which water goes below to a wet/dry filter, a large protien skimmer hangs on the side of the wet/dry filter, through a...

    Via Aqua Multi-Filter 2 comments?

:notsure: I was thinking of getting the Via Aqua Multi-Filter 2 (without the UV light) for when I migrate to my new 50 gal tank (LR, 3 small corals, 1 firefish, 2 O.Clownfish, Mandarin, Pepermint Shrimp, Cleaner Shrimp, Hermit crabs, Astrea Snail, Nasirius Snail) Does anyone use the Via Aqua...

    fluval malfunction

A friend of mine has a Fluval that creates bubbles as well.. It is caused by a leak in a hose or seal that actually sucks air into the system. Check all the hoses and valves first. If you can't eliminate the air leak, take it apart and re-seat everything.. Check the main canister seal.

    New tank and Bio Spira

The olny time they seem to tolerate the third damsel is when they all eat.. BTW: I know this is a bit off topic, but what is the best dry flake, morsel, etc to feed small fish? I can't see throwing in a whole frozen cube for 3 little damsels.

    New tank and Bio Spira

I did add the Damsels already.. Exerything looks good so far.. The Damsels are fiesty and they try to intimidate anyone who looks at them very closely.. It is rather funny.. The LFS had the yellow-tail damsels for 3 for $10 so if they die its not a huge money loss. Is it normal for Damsels to...

    New tank and Bio Spira

Has anyone used Bio Spira to cycle their new tank in 24 hrs? http://www.marineland.com/products/m...L_biospira.asp My LFS swears by it as they service aquariums all over Phoenix. I have tried it on my new FOWLR 25Gal and have just added Damsels. I am going to test the water tonight. It seems to...

    tap water

Depends on your water quality.. In Phoenix, some people I ask use TAP for top offs and RO only for water changes. Phoenix water does have a lot of calcium in it.
