how long can coraline sruvive out of water?

I wouldn't be over concerned. Even if you did, which I doubt, it'll grow back given good tank parameters fairly quickly =). I would put money on it returning to normal tomorrow or the following day. No worries. Happy New Year =)

    RO/RODI unit words of wisdom/advice

Haha, Happy New Years Eve dennis =P. I'm a guy for reference; just end up using a lot of smiliey things on the internet because I tend to be sarcastic and sometimes can be taken the wrong way without them. Yeah I always let my water sit with surface agitation for a day or so for our freshwater...

    RO/RODI unit words of wisdom/advice

Haha, alright. Thanks. I have my eyes on one for $99 that looks pretty good. Will save me a lot of cash in the long run. Wish I would have bought one to start.

Old tank syndrome-ish? Really out of ideas.

Uploaded some more pictures. One of the 2x25W light fixture over the sump (had to make some reflector umm, modifications... but got 2x20W power compacts in there), and two of the tank as it stands now. I am going to pick up an actual return pump; any suggestions? I'm looking for something I can...

    RO/RODI unit words of wisdom/advice

Looks good =). I don't think I will be able to do the auto top off; the tank is in an upstairs room. However, I probably can do the laundry room routine. Do you think I could plumb it off an upstairs bathroom sink actually? I have an open cabinet in our bathroom come to think of it that would...

    RO/RODI unit words of wisdom/advice

Alright will check them out. What about ones meant for drinking water? EDIT: Should I be looking for one of those tanks to store it in? Or can I always just use a bucket/trash can etc. What are the advantages/disadvantages to a "portable" unit? Also, do you think I will need a "booster pump" to...

    RO/RODI unit words of wisdom/advice

So while I sort out my mess of a tank, I think I'm just gonna pick up either an RO or RO/DI unit off that auction site. I figure buying it there will save me some cash, which I have none of to start, and I can just replace the filters and be good to go. I live in Pittsburgh and our water is...

    red slime algee???

I'd avoid the additives if you can. I've used the red slime stuff in a pinch to get the stuff away from my corals when I came back from school and found a slime farm in my tank =/. It worked. But everything just goes back into the water column, don't forget. Not sure about the poly stuff. I...

    elegance coral

Never heard good things about them. No personal first hand experience. I know both the Pittsburgh zoo aquarium (PPG aquarium) and my LFS can't seem to keep them alive for more any more than a month. Could have just been bad luck. I would just go buy two other corals instead. You'd probably be...

    Eric B's 125 Re-Build Journal

I gave up looking for specific fittings last time I was there. I now just write up a list of what I need and bring pieces of tubing/pipe to double check. I just give my list to the poor sucker in the plumbing section and he goes to town for me

    Broken heater

About 10 years ago my father had a trigger push a rock into a heater and it actually cracked. The heater must have shorted or something and caused the water to heat up so fast it killed off all the fish in the tank. Moral: Use a GFI and be careful with heaters =). Pitch the sucker =P

    red slime algee???

I'd try to get some flow down there if there isn't much. You can always put a T from the return pump if you don't have one already, a ball valve on one end of it and lead it back to the beginning of the sump. This will take some stress off the pump if you have a ball valve on the return line and...

Old tank syndrome-ish? Really out of ideas.

So I am about half way through the rocks. Never been squirted in the face by bubble algae until now. Also really wish I would have bought some heavy rubber gloves. I think I need more flow. A lot more. There is a lot of crap on these rocks. I think the sandbed is a lot of the problem. I never...

Old tank syndrome-ish? Really out of ideas.

Just a monti cap, hammer, blue candy, some scattered gsp's, and red shrooms throughout. They've all grown a whole lot though; take a look at that album I posted. I'm gonna scrub it down and see where that puts me. Not too far off from starting over at this point =(. Thanks for the point out on...

    Eric B's 125 Re-Build Journal

I've seen some pretty elaborate plumbing setups. Some of the more successful setups I have seen run for years without problems use that bendable pipe made out of links, and somehow hide it and get it to blow under the egg crate shelves they make. How they get it there is beyond me - I think they...

Old tank syndrome-ish? Really out of ideas.

Yeah I will check it out. Honestly the flow is very poor in the sump though. I am actually using a powerhead as my return =/. I will play with that more when I have some more time next break. Until then I will clean out the display tank and get more light on that sump. EDIT: I'll be darned if I...

Old tank syndrome-ish? Really out of ideas.

I really don't have much luck with my cleanup crews; they all seem to die quickly. It's almost as if my algae is toxic. I am bending my mind around a full work around. Considering I am limited time and money wise (have to manage to finish everything within a break, and will be gone until spring...

Old tank syndrome-ish? Really out of ideas.

I'll crank up the water changes a bit to about 5g weekly and keep the lights on the low side. The bulbs are changed pretty religiously ever 6 months, so they should be in spectrum. I wish I would have just gone with metal halides from the beginning, however. Would you recommend swapping out any...

Old tank syndrome-ish? Really out of ideas.

Well I've always had a problem it's just kinda snowballed over the past year with me being at school and my father not having time to work on the tank. I'm really feeding very little, and I believe if anything the AquaC remora on it is overkill for my tank. I guess my real question is, is there...

Old tank syndrome-ish? Really out of ideas.

Yeah have never been able to read any phosphates, but the LFS we get the water from isn't my favorite, just short on cash to buy an RO filter (2 more semesters of school left yet). I will run a phosphate test on the LFS water sometime just to make sure again, I know i tested it a while ago but...
