NEW 75G waiting to be setup!

Don't buy premixed...unless you're bling$$. It is very easy & waaaay cheaper to just mix your own. The only reason it would be a pain if you do want to spend more is going out to buy it every time you need it. If you can't afford an R/O unit you will have to buy distilled or R/O water from a...

    Cycling question

I too was thinking that the shrimp might be overkill....I don't want the ammonia spike to be so great that it harms the live rock...if that's possible? So if I want to just "feed" the tank what would you suggest I use? Thanks:)

    Newbie help

Coming here is a great start. Two great books to start off with are "The New Marine Aquarium: Step-By-Step Setup & Stocking Guide" by Michael Paletta and "The Conscientious Marine Aquarist" by Robert Fenner. They are both excellent & most recommended for a beginner. The first I mentioned really...

    Cycling question

I started my cycling a couple of days ago. I have a 46 G and added 50lbs of Marshall Island live rock and 60lbs of new (not live) Caribsea aragonite reef sand. The live rock was fully cured but I had it shipped 2 day so there probably was some die off. The rock smelled "good" however & didn't...

    A/C out. Aquarium hot

Today I came home from being away for the weekend & my tank was 89 degrees. Luckily right now there is nothing in it but the water. I removed the hood for a while & put a small fan blowing across the top of the water. Since this morning my tank has gone all the way down to 79. The little fan...

How much light is too much?

ok..got it Now I'm not trying to fight the issue here...I would much rather take my time & do everything the right away. Just trying to get an understanding of all of this. But from what I understand, I thought that zoos & shrooms are supposed to have negligible impact on your bio-load. Is...

How much light is too much?

Yeah...I think you told me that a few weeks ago. Someone else had told me that you could start adding zoos & mushroom polyps right away. So I was confused. Not to mention I see these people showing pics of their tanks at like 3 months and they all sorts of stuff in there. Are they jumping...

What would you recommend to be my first few corals in my setup? I am currently in the cycling process now. How long is a safe anount of time to wait after my tank is established until I should start adding some easy corals?

Do I need a tank cover?

Ok I have seen some pics of the eggcrate on this forum. What material is it typically made up of? Is it hard to cut? The eggcrate doesn't interfere with the lighting in anyway does it? What fish are some of the common jumpers?

Do I need a tank cover?

I am a newbie This maybe I dumb question... I just bought a 46G Bowfront & my lighting is now on the way. I went with the Current USA PowerCompact Orbit 4x96 watt SunPaq w/ Lunar Light. Ok, so my tank came with a hood & the standard crap lighting. I obviously need to do away with the hood to...

    Lighting help

I am a newbie looking at purchasing the Current USA 36" Outer Orbit 1x150W 10K HQI-MH 1/ 2x96W Dual Actinic & 4 Lunar Lights for my 46G Bowfront tank. Is there anything I can't keep in my tank with this lighting system? I know watts don't mean everything but the output on this unit is 342W.
