    230 tank plans

I havent personally used a uv sterilizer due to the fact of my beliefs about them. I can see the use of them if you have major parasite problems and no treatment can work other than a uv light, but ive never had such a problem so I dont see the need for daily use. The good bateria, etc is...

    230 tank plans

It kills "good guys" as well as bad. These beneficial microbes are absolutely necessary in almost all captive environments. Organisms maintained in a "well-filtered", strongly U.V. sterilized system seem to develop a type of acquired immune deficiency syndrome. Like the boy-in-a-bubble...

    230 tank plans

Tony Detroit, here is the source information from one case study, I can post about 40 of these but no need to argue. They are a good sterilizer but they kill everything the light hits, good and bad. I only state things like this that ive researched. But anyway here is the link. Check out the 5th...

    230 tank plans

"I think you'll need more skimmer. You might want to run Uv/Ozone as well and RO water." I would run a bigger skimmer also, sharks can create alot of bio load on a tank. I would recommend a berlin hang on for the big tanks unless you are running a sump you can use something like a nautilus...

    New Tank = New Sand?

I would recommend starting a whole new complete sandbed you will release stuff into the water that the animals will not partically take too and probably die. The ocean and fresh water have differant eco systems. My question would you take down a fresh water tank w/ sand and fill it up with salt...

    Filtration for a 55

I would recommend an emperor 400, and a skimmer. If you keep up with filter changes, and tank maintenance you will be fine. An emperor 400 flows 400 gph, so you are in the 7 times an hour mark. With the 330 you are in the 6 mark which is ideal but bigger is always better. Not saying you need a...

    Live Rock ?

Let it be its going to have some die off in the curing process. Be sure to be patient and wait until the water levels are zero before adding it to an established tank. If it is one still in the cycle though, than you can just add it right into the tank.

    Sand Question

click here Yes you can use the sand with out any problems, i went the expensive way with my 55 gallon reef tank, and 25 gallon f/o tank and went with the expensive live sand. With my 210 gallon though I bought the lowe's sand, and it works fine. The main advantage of aragonite sand is that its...

    hammer coral

Not sure what wattage the T5 strip is. The easiest way to tell how much wattage is (total light watts / gallons in aquarium = watts per gallon). Use this method and its a simple way to tell if its enough. Hope this helps.

    hammer coral

You will need at least 4 watts per gallon, so 500 watts total will give you around 4.5 wpg, which is recommended at least this amount. I have a reef tanks setup running around 4.7 wpg. This wattage is for running more light needing corals, like the hammer/frogspawn species.

    Waterflow

Wow some of your tanks are flowing alot of water, 3000 in a 75? Thats alot more than it needs. Im setting up a 210 shark tank (The filtration is going to be a total of 1700 gph, and the power heads will be pushing a total of 690 gph.) So my total of filtration will be x8 (6-8 is the recommended...

    Another Snake Question

you have cottonmouths, copperheads, and timber rattlers, they are all throughout the midwest. You just have to go to the right place to see one. Normally down by a water front, like in the weeds and areas where there arent alot of people. :D

    Virus?

I work with computers all day, so this would be my recomendation. It sounds like you have gotten a registry virus as suggested before. At first I thought maybe your hard-drive just crashed but you are able to boot up so this isnt the case. Doing a reg-edit on your computer would not be...

    Another Snake Question

It could be a northern water snake here is the link: http://www.fcps.k12.va.us/StratfordL...ater_snake.htm But before you handle it, make sure to look at the eyes and see if they are slanted on top or if they are rounded. If they are rounded its a northern water snake, I use to catch these as a...

    Another Snake Question

With some water snakes its hard to tell, like for instance the northern water snake resembles a cotton a lot, the size, pattern, head shape, color. But the easiest way to tell is to look directly at the eyes if they have a slant at the top of the eye it is poisonous. If the eyes are rounded like...
