    Refugium question

So once it is established it will feed the main tank on its own?

    Refugium question

Once a fuge is set up how do you get all the little creatures to grow and produce in it (like copepods and amphipods)? And then what do you do to use them as food in your main tank?

    Sump Question

I am going to run two 1/2 in drains from the DT to the sump and one 3/4 return line. This seems like it will flow more water than my current filter does now. Will this be sufficient? I currently have a 55g tank and am building a 30 gallon sump/fuge. I am going to upgrade to a 75 gallon tank...

    Reverse Osmosis....

I use my RO unit for filling up bottled water containers for drinking and all sorts of other stuff. In the money I spend just for drinking water I will pay off my RO unit in a year. That is not including what I use for the aquarium. So it pays for itself in the long run.

    RO/DI unit--membrane hissing

I agree; it seems as if your membrane is either not seated properly or it is broken in some way alowing water to bypass. Have you looked over the membrane for obvious cracks or punctures?

    Sump Question

So fill it half way and if the power goes out it will drain and fill but by the time it does it would have pulled the water level on the top tank below the pickup? I was going to try some kind of float valve to shut off the syphon in case of power outage. It seems the power here goes out about...

    Sump Question

I have a 55 gallon reef tank and I want to get most of the electrical stuff out of it. I do not want to drain the tank and drill, (but it is an option). Can I simply pump water from my main tank into a 10 gallon tank and then use a powwerhead in the 10 gallon to pump back to the main? I guess...

    Coralife Super Skimmer

I have a CSS and after about a day I cannot get the tiny micro bubbles to stop coming out of the overflow box. I raised the foam out a bit and it helped but I am not satisfied with the fix. I also cannot adjust it properly according to the instructions. You are supposed to open the water flow...

    Alternatives to RO water?

So, I do not need to drain the tank or anything like that? Like I said before tap is working fine but I would not mind switching over.

    Alternatives to RO water?

If I have tap water now and do buy a RO/DI unit what do I need to do to change over? Can I just start using it to top off and do water changes and eventually over a few monts basicly convert over?

    Alternatives to RO water?

I will check out the board. I have not had red alage problems. Tap water CAN cause major problems, this does not mean it always does.

    damsles

I cycled my tank with them. After it cycled I removed the live rock and stored it in coolers with tank water. I netted the damsels and mollys, and flushed. I have had damsels that worked well with other fish and I had some that were aggressive. I would suggest some blue/green reef chromis...

    Question?

A 35 gallon tank is not a "large reef". If you have experience with saltwater a 30 gallon tank might be ok. The larger the tank the better because the amount of water will buffer some of the ill effects you may cause. You will need new substrate, and possibly a new filtration system. If you...

    Alternatives to RO water?

I use tap water with additives to remove chlorine and heavy metals. My tanks have always thrived, I have not had any excessive alage problems or anything like that. I am sure RO water is great stuff but IMO I think it is a bit over hyped.

Is it even possible that tap water is ok?

My whole house is plumbed with copper, I have kept all kinds of inverts, and corals (soft). I have not had any problems and my tank thrived, I have never used RO water. Alot of the water conditioners remove metals as well as chemicals the city puts in.

    UV Question

Will a UV sterilizer remove the brown alage that seems to always form on my glass? Also is this type of alage normal or is it worse with certain conditions? I am getting it on the glass and rocks.

    Missing fish

Ok, I have a bit of a problem here that I am having trouble figuring out. It goes like this. My tank is about 3 weeks old, I have a 55gal with 45lbs of live rock. The rock I purchased was cured premium Figi rock. I did not cure the rock myself because I was putting it in a new tank and...

    Low PH Levels

The only buffer I have put in is the PH buffer. I will test the alkalinity and try to bring it up if need be.

    Low PH Levels

I will probally get the coralife skimmer, I want something that hangs on the back and not in the tank. Your post made perfect sense, thank you for the info I will be working on getting the nitrites down (this is why I figured the tank had to cycle). Is there anyway to get the calcium down?
