Yet another DSB Question - Concerning Livestock

In a very short amount of time, I plan on making the switch to a DSB, from CC. My question is...will the impending sandstorm hurt my fish, or should I transfer them to my small 10 gallon, until the dust settles? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Oh- I will be using Southdown, and a top...

    Temperature for Reef Tank

Once i get the DSB in, should I be worried about hydrogen sulfide gases? How long would it take this gas to accumulate and how would I get rid of it? Brock

    Temperature for Reef Tank

I'm going to be shortly changing my substrate from CC to a DSB. I will also be adding some LR. Currently, my tank is around 75-76 degrees. Are the temperature requirements different for reef tanks? Perhaps this is a stupid question? Thanks Brock

Is everyone's experience with the sand purchase here is that it has beneficial critters in it? If so, I believe I will purhase some. Thanks Brock

    LS from Saltwaterfish.com

Does anyone have any information about the live sand offered on this website. I'm interested in purchasing LS, but am unsure if this sand is any better than that found at my LFS. Thanks Brock

LS from Saltwaterfish.com Information - Please

Has anyone purchased LS from this site? Is it recommended? Or should I just buy the stuff in the LFS? I see very little information about the sand that is sold on this site. How long has the sand that I purchase here been out of the ocean? Anyone have any ideas? Thanks Brock

Amount of Aragonite vs Live Sand?

I am now planning on converting my CC 46 Gal tank to a DSB. I believe I will need approx 110 lbs of sand to have at least 4". How much live sand is needed, just enough to cover the surface, or do I need a deeper layer of live sand? Thanks Brock

    Southdown Sand Alternatives

Does anyone know of any alternatives to Southdown sand. It would seem that no Home Depots in Central Ohio have even heard of this type of sand. I really don't want to pay the price of the local fish stores. Thanks Brock

SOS - Nitrate Levels and Sick Damsel

My nitrates have gone down considerably (<30), but my favorite damsel has not eaten in 5-6 days. He is also breathing extremely quickly. He is not very active around feeding time. I am going away Friday evening and won't be back until Sunday. I'm afraid that he may die while I'm away and...

New tank, Water levels all good shape

I unfortunately did something very similiar, with the same type of advice from my LFS. You will most likely see your nitrates skyrocket. Your nitrites will most likely go up some. I've lost 2 fish and a crab by doing what you did. Its a hard way to learn a lesson. Whatever you do or...

    nitrates going up

Not sure I can help, but I do have a question. I would like to replace my CC with LS. How did you do this over a two-week period. Any helpful hints? The missing clown could definitely be causing your ammonia and then nitrates to spike. I also have a brittle star, what do you feed it...
