    coral banded shrimp

Has anyone ever known of coral banded shrimp to kill fish? We have a tank that's over two years old and had a clownfish for about the same amount of time. The clownfish survived two moves and a hefty bout with red slime algae. He was a pretty tough little fish. However, we recently introduced...

    Help!!! RedHair Algae Bloom

we have/had a similar problem in our tank. the guy at the local pet store suggested cutting back the amount of light and keeping an eye on temprature. he also suggested snails. I cut an hour of light off both ends (2 hours total) and put 6 mexican turbo snails in the tank. they seem to be doing...

need some new fish... looking for advice

we're working on figuring out what happened to the other fish. I will not buy any more until I'm sure they'll be ok. It's a little mysterious, but it seems to have been a problem with our heater. There were no marks on the fish, water levels were fine, and there had been no changes to the tank...

    Red Slime, What Next?

we had red slime literally take over our tank a few months ago. we used a red slime enzyme treatment. I think it took two doses, but it seemed to do the trick. your fish may breath a little heavy but if you have an airstone and/or power heads, they should be ok. warning, though, some algae...

    tang health

yeah, the other three seem perfectly fine. I understand that these things do happen. I'm just looking to see if this is a sign of something and whether or not there's anything to prevent it or at least keep our other fish from meeting the same untimely end. thanks a lot for the help, though. any...

    tang health

we've had a yellow tang in our tank for about a year. we just noticed pecular behavior today; at first, he was swimming at an angle near the surface of the water. several hours later, he's doing the same but along the sand at the bottom. it seems that it's dying but we can't find a particular...

what do bubble tip anemonies eat?

it should have plenty of light. I'm running a sundial ho t5 4x24w in a 29g tank. I'll look into the mysis shrimp, but I'm glad to know that that don't need to be spot fed that often. thanks for all the help!

what do bubble tip anemonies eat?

I have a pink tip hatian anemonie that I spot feed freeze dried shrimp every few days. I've recently gotten a bubble tip anemonie, as well, but it won't accept the shrimp. are they strictly filter feeders, or should I use something else to supplement it's diet?

I need a new filter... and some help

I appreciate the help. thanks a lot. we did clean the filter but it still didn't work. I picked up a new one yesteray and came home to find the other one was working again. at least I have a backup now if that stops working again. a canister and sump filter with a skimmer is most likely in my...

I need a new filter... and some help

I'm told that a sump or fuge is a bit excessive for a smaller tank, like mine (29g), so I'll probably just look into a hanging filter. I have some zoas in the tank now and would like to get some more coral, in time. I may look into a sump, eventually, but I'm thinking a hanging filter would do...

I need a new filter... and some help

I'm in the process of updating some of my equipment for a 29 gallon tank. maybe a week or two ago, I had posted a question about filters. One of the posters on here kindly responded and suggested a hanging refugium. I was at a local shop on sunday and was looking around, talking to their guy...

    Clean up crew?

ok... forgive my ignorance on the subject, but I'm seeing terms like "cycling" and "clean up crew" here... our tank was becoming overrun with some thick brown algae, or at least what I assumed to be algae. I finally updated the lighting in the tank after doing some research and the new lighting...

    temperature acclimate?

I have a pink tip haitian and a bubble anemonie. I'll shoot for 3 hours, then. at the end of the three hours, do you just let them out of the bag and they'll fine their own home, or should you try to place them in the tank? thanks again
