Having some trouble with my Nitrates

I wanna quickly give everyone an update before I leave, I believe she is eating the scallops. Last night and even this morning she was so energized and hard to feed because she was moving all around. When we bought her she wasn't like that. So it was confirmed, she was hungry. I just place a...

Having some trouble with my Nitrates

Well, saying what you just said here would have helped me understand where u were coming from as well other then just saying "You are shooting down sound advise". I understand that we are all human and I don't mean to be rude, but I have had an issue with this forum before where I asked some...

Having some trouble with my Nitrates

@ Smartorl. How am I shooting down sound advice? I took advice and I even mentioned that I appreciate every ones input. From all of my comments how am I shooting down? If there is one thing I hate about this forum, it's how everyone is so dang uptight, always expecting every new comer to be...

Having some trouble with my Nitrates

I feed my fish twice a day. You would think if it was true that I was overfeeding them that there would be a lot of detritus in the sand. I got some scallops and put 2 in the sand and put the star on the sand and it found it and ate it. So I will either continue to do that or bring it back to...

Having some trouble with my Nitrates

Okay.. Now I am getting confused, I just read that the sand is okay for her just doesn't have any nutrients for her in it. And now I hear she on the glass because of the sand??????? What kind of scallops, Frozen and then thawed? I would probably want to feed her at least 3 times in a day right...

Having some trouble with my Nitrates

So if I have the right sand, what should I do to keep this little guy alive? Is there something I can put in the sand? And I was talking to Smartorl when I said, the last comment about not using the purple up.

Having some trouble with my Nitrates

Well, you also haven't used purple up ever in your tank because you don't wanna add anything to it, so you never know until you are willing to try. (But I don't recommend it!)

Having some trouble with my Nitrates

This is the kind of sand we have! Some of it is very fine and some have a little larger chunks.. But NOTHING HUGE!!

Having some trouble with my Nitrates

Yes, That explains that I was overdoing it with the purple up. My shell sand is very fine though, so does that still matter?

Having some trouble with my Nitrates

I heard with the purple up that it is safe if you put a limited amount in the tank rather then putting it in daily. To much of that stuff is really overpowering and can (and will) kill everything in your tank eventually. (I am a witness to that one!)

Having some trouble with my Nitrates

Actually, like I said, It went from 20ppm to 10ppm, But will not go any lower then that. I want to see it at 0ppm or 5ppm but I cannot obtain that. I wish I would have known this before purchasing the star fish because when we got her she was in sand that appeared to be crushed shells, which...

Having some trouble with my Nitrates

I already mentioned above your comment that it has been up and running for almost 3 months now. It is fully cycled. Just the Nitrates that wont go down.

Having some trouble with my Nitrates

I also want to mention that we have had this tank up and running and fully cycled for almost 3 months now. So there should be plenty of stuff in the sand for her, It's just the question of why she is on the wall and will not move from there and the worry of the Nitrates.

Having some trouble with my Nitrates

I have a 30 gallon fish tank that is hosting 2 percula clownfish, 1 cleaner shrimp, 1 peppermint shrimp, 3 or 4 turbo snails, a bunch of other snails, 1 lawn mower blenny & 1 sand sifting star fish. We have 4 live rock & live sand that is really crushed sea shells (No crustaceans). We have a...

    Oxygen!

Well, Where I am getting at is the fact that you guys quickly assume. No matter if the subject is about how educated or how uneducated you are. He asked if I have searched up information on this hobby, making me assume he thought I knew nothing and was just coming on here for fun. I am just...

    Oxygen!

So you suggest power heads then, Hmmm interesting! And I am not one of those kinds of people who just jump into it for the fun of it. My husband and I have done a fair share of research him more then me but we wanted to make sure and know all that we could about how to establish the tank...

    Oxygen!

I've got that.. but that is not what I am asking here.. My question is regarding the oxygen, not the equipment that takes care of water quality. I have researched this hobby but even ones who have researched and researched can have questions can't they. I love how you quickly assume I haven't...
