    Shaving Brush Requirements

I am thinking about buying a few of these for my tank. Will a coral beauty angel eat them? Also, do they require any sort of special lighting, as I only have the basic light that came with my tank.

    LR and LS placement questions:

I second that........even though damsels can cycle a tank it stresses them as well. I unknowningly used damsels to cycle mine and regreted doing so. Additionally, if you add rocks and decide you dont want the damsels anymore (as I did), you have to break your tank down to catch them all.

    Successful CC to Sand Switch!!

Just wanted to announce that I successfully switched out my CC for Live Sand over the weekend (something I should have done from the beginning) and everything looks great. Thanks to anyone who gave me advice or help on how to accomplish this. :happyfish

    Need Advise

There is a standard ratio for live rock 1 lb - 1.5 bl per gallon You can add more or less than this (mostly a personally preference) but that is the recommended amount. If you are planning to do a reef setup then I would say closer to the 1.5 lb per gallon. As always, cure the LR before...

Made the Switch -- Sand Storm

Sounds excellent, I am glad everything is working out for you. My sand will be arriving today or tomorrow, and I am definately looking forward to making the switch. I am still mad that I bought CC to begin with due to a lack of research.....

    Extra Blue Legged Hermit

Do hermit crabs shed exoskeletons (do they even have exoskeletons?) the same way shrimp do? I have 2 in my tank but I recently noticed a third, "dead" looking one. It is the same size as the other two. I think this has happened a couple of times before because I have found little legs in the...

    live rock... what happened?

Check your calcium levels. That purple stuff was probably corraline algae and needs certain amounts of calcium in your tank to survive.

    Hours of Lighting per Day

I was just wondering how long most people keep their lights on per day. I think I heard between 10-12 is a good amount. Also, does it matter what hours of the day they are on (early, mid day or late). Thanks.

    Sand or CrushedCoral?

Pretty much everyone on this website will tell you sand. If you are just starting out, save yourself the trouble and get live sand right away. I am currently switching my CC to live sand. CC has to be vacuumed, and if you plan on adding Live Rock, it makes it difficult to vacuum each area...

    Live Plants

To be honest I am not really sure, although I dont think it makes a big difference either way.

    Curring Live Rock

If I order it from this site, what is the best method of doing this (I have an established tank) and how long will it take??

    Live Plants

Plants are very beneficial, espicially at reducing phosphates. Their success depends on what kind of life you have in your tank. Be wary of fish that eat plants, or you will be providing them with an expensive treat. Other than that they should be fine.

Setting up first 29 gal w/Sump

I am not sure about a pump (i have no sump on my 29g), but I know that the AquaC is the best one out there for tanks our size. I am not sure of the cost (im guessing btw $150-$200) but you definatley dont want a cheap one. Many people on this site have recommended this skimmer for smaller tanks...

    Curing Live Sand?

I am planning to order 20 lbs of LS from this site, as I am removing my CC. Will I need to cure the live sand, and if I do, how does one go about doing so?
