new to the saltwater hobby and have a million questions

You can save the sand by putting it in a pillow case and washing it thoroughly with a water hose with a nozzle. :). The pillow case should be brand new and gave no artificial colors. It could save you a hundred or so in the cost of sand.

Good job on the research. Knowing the terms and how to use them and how to fix it - is half the battle. Here's a few more you will get familiar with when dealing with SPS: AEFW Red Bugs STN RTN LTN Alk burn I'm just messing with yah. You probably already know em'.

Protein Skimming: What, Why and When

The skimmers I have recently used have bubbled so much that there is no decernible water level inside the skimmer at all. No water line. Nothing. the whole inner chamber of the skimmer is milky white, even below the sump waters surface. In your case, that really makes me wonder if the pump is...

    Marine snow....

Your welcome. Marine snow has a reputation of fouling up the water quality. I'd run the skimmer 24/7 on a mixed reef and feed heavy enough to keep nitrates between 5-10ppm.

    Three skimmers, which one wins?

I've had my skimz monzter mini sn123 for about a month now and it has pulled more skimmate than a bunch of my old skimmers, including the reef octopus. I like the skimz but I feel like the 143 would be a better choice for a 100g tank.

    Marine snow....

Lps corals eat the meaty bits left over from feeding your fish and mushrooms and other soft corals eat small particulates and organic molecules in the water column. Shouldn't really need to feed marine snow. If anything, a small amount of live phytoplankton would be a good addition.

    New 75g Reef Tank

Got them home and acclimated. I turned the lights off for an hour or so. Now they are both out and swimming around. My coral beauty angel is even checking them out. :) the Angels eye looks a lot better today. I don't think I am going to stress him out by QTing him. I'm gonna let the tank...

Protein Skimming: What, Why and When

It's not really a debate. Keep your water level in your sump stable and adjust the skimmer to a normal skim on a regular day. Don't keep adjusting it after your foam head is lost. The foam head breaks when you feed the tank or put oily things in the water or put your hands in the tank. Just keep...

    New 75g Reef Tank

The angel fishes eye problem seems to have to e away on its own. I'm going to end up using the 20g of water from the quarantine tank to do my first water change on the system. The kalk stirrer has been up and going and everything is still alive. In the next few weeks I should start to see a...

And you think i would learn

I ordered from them A couple of times. They are ok. I get my clean up crews from the live fish store. They have good deals and I like to buy five or so at a time instead of a huge batch. I buy from my LFS a lot just to support a local business.

    New 75g Reef Tank

The angelfishes eye looks a lot better today for some reason. He is still in my tank and I still have the quarantine tank up and running. I think I am going to give it another few days to see if it just keeps getting better. If it does, then I'll take the quarantine down. If it takes a turn for...
