    Getting into coral

Ok thanks for the tip so guys! I'll keep them in one place from the start then. I have a nice isolated rock structure in my tank for it. Day 3, still closed...the wait is on.

    Getting into coral

Hey another question, I put the green star polyp pieces in 4 different spots in the tank. I plan to see which is best to get them opening and then move all the frags there and isolate the GSP tothat rock. Now I understand that it's invasive as hell once it gets going and needs to be isolated...

    Getting into coral

I see thank you! I think I just got conned by the LFS, "No no you need to dose for softie tanks too, if it's too low then they won't grow". Appreciate all the help guys, I think you guys have saved me a lot of hassle, worries and money.

    Getting into coral

Ok thanks guys I'll go for moderate to high flow then. Its interesting, with only 2 (+1 closed) soft corals in the tank, the calcium and alkalinity is being maintained by water changes alone. I feel like I wasted money on dosing chemicals, but maybe they'll come in handy later. And hahaha yeah...

    Ammonia Spike?

Your tanks been running longer than mine! I've been freshwater keeping for many years but I just got into saltwater in September. I added fish slowly, so there was no ammonia spike after the first one went away. So you set up the tank 2.5months ago post cycle. How quickly did you add then 4...

    Getting into coral

Ok so a little update on my 400L reef tank. The macroalgae and purigrn have been working so well with feeding and water changes, that my nitrates are 5-10ppm now. All the GHA died by the way, it all turned brown and the snails and brittle sea stars are eating them up. So I bought a test kit...

    Ammonia Spike?

Hey! How long has the tank been running for? I think there are three possibilities, 1) faulty test kit (unlikely as you said fish was acting weird too) 2) something died (whether this be a fish, snail, macroalgae) 3) the tank hasn't been cycled properly and it's a relatively new tank (couple...

    Green hair algae battle

Thanks for the advice! Yeah no worries, to be honest at this stage I probably shouldn't be keeping any corals. I just got it for free so I put it in (after dipping and inspecting ofc). It's doing well though, opens up and jiggles from time to time. I'm probably 6-8 months off a fox face anyway...

    Denitrification in the sandbed

So my sand bed is about 1-2 inches (depth varies). I notice right before water changes there are always lots of microbubbles on the sand. These disappear for a week or so after siphoning and then return. Is this evidence of denitrifying bacteria? And if so, are there any benefits to leaving...

Found all my fish dead this morning!

You mentioned taking water to the store to test it. Do you keep ammonia nitrite and nitrate test kits at home? Did you use these to assess the cycling of your tank?

    FOTW= Foxface Rabbit fish

In terms of adding fish to a tank, Would this fish be added nearer the end? After smaller fish like blennys, gobys and clowns? Or does it not matter when it is added?

    Feeding my clownfish

Quick questions, ok so I fed my clowns frozen mysis today. I used about hmmm around 1/20 or 1/15 of a cube. I syringed it slowly waiting for the fish to eat each piece. 1) Near the last few drops I noticed the clowns were spitting the odd piece out. Is this a sign they are full? Initially they...

    Feeding my clownfish

Ok thanks guys, might try feed daily smaller amounts. Well where I can, somedays im not home till late so the fish are asleep. Feed heavy to make sure there are a lot of bacteria? What is the reason for this? I thought if you feed less and had a smaller bacterial load then that's ok because...

    Feeding my clownfish

Ok so I could feed more and they're not underfed. Cheers :) Well as long as they're not being underfed I might stick to this routine since I have a new tank and it says probably not very stable. Appreciate your advice!

    Feeding my clownfish

Ahh so I'm currently overfeeding? Or are you saying I should feed the same amount but spread it over every day?

    Feeding my clownfish

Just need some reassurance here. So I feed my clowns every alternate day. I swap between pellet food and frozen mysis each time. So in a week they would have 2 servings of pellets and 2 servings of mysis. I feed 15-16ish mini pellets each time. Which I think is around 5-6 standard pellets. And...
