    Too much bacteria??

What kind of sand did you use? What are you using for top off water?

    New 75g Reef Tank

I don't like the uneven black background. Apparently I didn't use the same kind of spray paint as the original owner. I'm not worried about it though. I'll let it grow over with coralline and glue some shelving montipora on it or something to help conceal it a little better.

I think I'm going to try the 2LF kalk stirrer. From what I keep reading, it seems to me like people don't know how to work with kalkwasser. They just put the powder in the reactor body and then add water- and that just not how you should do it. It will gum up and be a hard paste if you do it...

    Newly mixed cloudy saltwater

I've mixed salt with maxijet 1200 powerheads before. Lol. Not until recently have I have I had this problem again. I dunno. I'll just let it keep mixing for now.

    New 75g Reef Tank

Lol. Thankfully, my wife doesn't care. I'm looking at getting two cheap Chinese LED lights eventually. But I'm open to suggestions. For the kalk stirrer, I was looking at buying a two little fishies one, but the more I read reviews, the more I'm considering using a more expensive brand. I...

    New 75g Reef Tank

Wouldn't calcium carbonate form as a precipitate though? I would think that I would see little white grains or a white film develop on the glass. That hasn't happened so far. I've seen what dumping alkalinity in a tank will do to it - it will precipitate out almost all the calcium in the water...

    New 75g Reef Tank

So the cloudy water has cleared up for the most part. Salinity is at 1.026. The temperature has taken 12 hours to increase by 10 degrees Fahrenheit. It's now 77.1*F. If it stays stable at that temp, that would be great. The noisiest thing on the tank now is the glass holes overflow. Lol...

    Newly mixed cloudy saltwater

So salinity is at 1.026 now. I'm happy with that. I just guessed the amount I needed to put in and it was right all along. Lol. Temperature is at 77.1F as of 6 this evening. The tank is not near as cloudy as what it was this morning after I let the return pump run all day. I bet if the temp...

    Newly mixed cloudy saltwater

Yeah, but I'm mixing up 100 gallons this time. I used to mix up 50 gallons at a time with a mag12 pump. I'm using small maxijet powerheads this time and a quiet one model 4000 which is just about that powerful. I'll just have to see if it gets any better by this evening. I left my tank running...

    Newly mixed cloudy saltwater

I'm just wondering if anyone can come up with a plausible explanation for this phenomenon. I used all 0 TDS RO water and mixed in a little at a time. I made sure that none of it settled for too long after I got it mixed. I added salt to water like your supposed to do. I guess I'm just a little...

    New 75g Reef Tank

hopefully when I get home I'll see the tank cleared up. I wish I could go by the fish store today and buy some base rock and make a structure or two this evening. The Texas holy rock that the LFS sells is heavy,... I was looking for some lace rock which seems to be a little lighter. We well...

    Newly mixed cloudy saltwater

I added IO Reef Crystals to water. Temp was 66F. Mixed 48 hours with two large pumps. Still cloudy/hazy. No deposits on bottom of tank. Adjusted heater up to 78F today.

    New 75g Reef Tank

I am very disappointed with how loud the lifeguard aquatics quiet one pump is. I was so used to how loud the mag drives are that I thought the quiet one was a quiet pump. Heh. The bean animal overflow is louder than I expected. I thought that it would be as easy as dialing in a siphon and it...
