    tank/fish maintenance

Seems like with a lot of these forums most of the posts are from years ago. Is there something we can do to increase attendance?

Why has it been so long since we've had a photo contest and does SWF plan on having any more?

Pom Pom crab?! How do I get it out and find it.

The only way to keep it from hiding, I'm afraid, is to have a bare tank. They do come out during lights out using a red light for viewing. I wouldn't worry about the Bristle Worm. They are an important part of any CUC and I, for one, welcome them in my tank.

    White hairy tube

That, I'm afraid, is Aiptasia. A glass anemone that is a huge pest, highly invasive and multiply quickly. They will sting any fish or coral it comes in contact with. DO NOT TOUCH WITH YOUR BARE HANDS or you will feel the Wrath of Kahn! Certain Wrasses or a True Peppermint Shrimp will help if...

look what i found on my clam - snail

Sorry it took so long to get back so I hope your situation has improved. However, Pyramid snails don't rely 100% on clams and snails as a food source so even if you left your tank fallow there's till going to be something for them to feed on.

Something is wrong with my tank-

I noticed your Calcium is a tad high. Most corals feed off Nitrates so a zero reading is not optimal. What about your Ammonia and Nitrite readings? What type of tests are you using? Also, in my opinion, 8 weeks is too early for most corals. What species are you trying?

    Possibly an impatient n00b

I waited almost twelve weeks before I added anything more than a CUC just to make sure I had the algae situation under control and my ammonia was consistently measuring zero. I kept ghost feeding to keep the bio-load going.

Ok people, the DIY algae scrubber is finished. I cut a piece of mesh screen and attached it to some rigid tubing using zip ties, then mounted that to the in-tank portion of the scrubber by drilling a hole at either end of the housing. I cut the tubing 2in wider than the housing so that it will...

Sorry I've been gone for a while. A lot has happened since my last post. Got married. Separated 28 days later. Divorced a month after that. Sold the house and moved into an apartment on the second floor so I'm not able to set this bad boy up. Looking to buy a small house just for me in the mean...

Good food for the CUC unless it starts to get worse. Do you have direct sun light on the tank?

Turn your lights down to give him a chance to get used to the new surroundings. It may take a few more days but he'll get used to it and should start eating.
