    New 75g Reef Tank

Yeah, I know. But I've done it before. I'm considering saving up and buying live rock. We will just have to see.

    New 75g Reef Tank

No. Not yet. I got to dig them up and rinse them first. Lol. It's ok though, it's going to take me a while to get everything situated the way I want it.

    Cyanobacteria with low nitrates

Shaving brush is hard to keep alive in the first place. Cyanobacteria is a buildup of biofilm over rotting material like detritus. High nitrates and phosphates are concentrated in a localized area and nutrients may not be high in the water column. To get rid of it you may want to consider...

75 Gal with stand and canopy on carpet

Tank and stand. The bottom rim sits on it and the wood underneath. I also put it under sumps too.

That's awesome dude!!! Now I'm on the fence between buying a gyre or a couple used vortechs. Lol I just updated my thread.

Styrofoam takes away all the tiny unevenness in a tank settling. It also absorbs some vibrations from outside vehicles - or in my case living in a trailer, helps absorb vibrations from heavy footed traffic in the house.

    New 75g Reef Tank

This Summer I might be having to supplement my income depending on how things go in the taxidermy shop,... might have to get a part time side job or start selling a product of some sort. With the hunting season as bad as it was this year,... BUT, we always make it through every year, we just...

    New 75g Reef Tank

Just got a really good deal from affordable aquatic on the Aquamaxx ConeS CO-1. It's for up to a 175g tank, but I read about a guy that was using one on a mildly stocked 55g with a lot of success. I figured I could run it on my 75g with 36g sump and 10g refugium without much problem at all...

    looking for a little advice

Variable speed pumps are better at lifting detritus out of the rocks and sandbed to keep the tank cleaner.

    New 75g Reef Tank

Oh, and I got one of those nifty little 1" spinner things for the return. I thought it couldn't hurt. I ordered the model 4000 pump to have extra flow for the spinner, the two reactors and the Seperate 10g refugium I want to run. The only thing I didn't get today that I really needed was two...

Jebao sells variable speed wave generators for cheap. Better than the old maxi jets. If you want LEDs for just a fish only tank, Marineland reef double brights are just enough to grow coralline.

    Good News,...

I have an almost 3year old daughter and I'm glad that our next one will be similar in age. My brother and I are 7 years apart and have absolutely nothing in common and even less to say to each other. So I'm glad that my daughter will be a big sister so soon. At least she will be out of...

The rocks, glass, and the snails are getting brown

Pictures would help. Sounds like diatoms or dinoflagellates but won't know for sure without a picture or two. What did you change up to move to a reef tank?

75 Gal with stand and canopy on carpet

Is it in your home or a rental? Since its on concrete, you might be able to shim it well enough. I would place the tank on styrofoam to let it settle level. I have had tanks on carpet and it was a hassle in the past. Like Beth said, maintenance is a trick. But, it's doable.

How often do you feed you fish?

I rinse because there is a lot of liquid nutrients in the frozen foods. The corals get enough zooplankton to eat without dosing the tank with extra that could cause algae issues.

    Snake's Guide to Cycling

When I say shrimp tail, I mean the portion of the tail that sometimes doesn't come out when your peeling it to eat. A small piece. Then again, over the years, ghost feeding like Guy said may be the best alternative to the raw shrimp tail method.

    56 column

A combination of all three factors. Adding additional fish may cause problems with the others, it may cause water quality issues with the additional food vs. filtration ratio. What I might do personally is take some water quality tests - nitrate and phosphate namely, and see where the tank is...

    New 75g Reef Tank

Yeah, it makes sense. I think I'll have 1" bulkheads in the drain box and use gate valves instead of ball valves to dial in the siphon. I'm currently thinking that a refugium may not be necessary for what I want to do with my tank. I like refugius but I keep very clean water and the macro...
