    out of control skimmer

Check the alkalinity of your tank that the skimmer runs fine on and see what it is at. Then we will do some more tests and i'll ask a few more questions. I'm kind of interested in getting to the bottom of this.

you mean a dKH of 14, right? That's 5mEQ/L which is actually a bit high. Most SPS keepers run 8dKH to 10dKH. That makes me suspect that you might have been adding something to buffer your pH?

Any rapid fluctuations in temperature or salinity or pH? Stirring anything up? Check your nitrates and phosphates to see where they are at.

    New 75g Reef Tank

Quite a few. Sucks to be financially unstable. But I'm finally on my feet, out of college and working full time. Good to hear from you again, Henry.

    New Tank

I would like to see some photos. Sketches,... Something. I also suggest limiting your threads to one per topic. Large custom acrylic sumps can be built by the same people that built the tank. The filtration would be built into the sump, but you would have to have one or two large protein...

BioCube 29 Gallon Lighting during cycling - Please Help!

It's unnecessary to light the tank during cycling but many people do it to try to preserve some of the life that is still on the rocks. Four hours a day with all the lights on is good enough. Once the tank is cycled you can easily move up to six hours daylight and eight hours actinic. When you...

    New Hobbyist: 20 Gallon?

Flower, show me an above average tank of the month on any forum that runs a canister as the sole mechanical and chemical filter. I have yet to find one. If your HOB filter is loud, your water level is probably too low.

    Lighting / Canopy Advice

Lol!!! We can't post links on this forum to direct members to buy at other retail sites than this one. It's one of the horrible rules on this forum that I have a lot of problems with and that has driven many people away from this forum. The other rule is to keep everything rated PG which does...

    New Hobbyist: 20 Gallon?

If they only have space for one tank, I'm guessing that they won't have space for a quarantine... I would avoid a canister filter at all costs. More aquarists come on here with problems caused by their canister filters then I would like to see. They forget to clean them and replace the...

    MACNA 2015

If ya'll would, keep this thread around for a while... I'm sure everyone can learn a thing or two - pricing, hotels, flights, etc... and not to mention posting pictures of the whole thing for people who aren't going. Maybe it could generate a little interest in going to see the 2016 one. :)

    MACNA 2015

lol, Sorry man, I know, I know. But I can't risk leaving town the week that the baby is due. My first daughter was born a week earlier than predicted,... wouldn't want to chance it this time.

    Lighting / Canopy Advice

I wouldn't use them for soft corals. They don't have enough PAR to really grow anything besides maybe some coralline algae and cyano. I looked them up, and for the price of the orbit brand new - ~$200, you could get two 165w Chinese dimmable LED fixtures with the dimmer switches and everything...

Product Review: Seaclone 100 Protein Skimmer

A seaclone is a waste of time and money. Try something better and rated for a plus one of your system like a reef octopus BH100.

The rocks, glass, and the snails are getting brown

Ditch the canister. Canister filters have no place in the saltwater hobby, besides emergencies.
