    New 75g Reef Tank

I just ordered my adhesive black RTV silicone for the drain box. I'm going to the hardware store tomorrow and buying the rest of the materials I need. Once I have a good idea how wide the drain box needs to be, I'll order my glass. I might have this tank up and running in a week or two. Woohoo!

    New 75g Reef Tank

I just got an order in the mail. Woohoo!! I recieved my return pump, 7 bulkheads, the water director, a 200micron non mesh, glass hole saw and a gate valve,... Woohoo! Now I need: plumbing, styrofoam, glass, wood, paint and silicone. Once I get all of that- I'll be doing great!!!

What I thought was high ammonia is apparently a sickness.

Ich is a definite possibility. A quarantine tank can be set up quickly and cycled with an old filter floss from the display tank. Wouldn't hurt to have Amquel or prime on hand in case of an ammonia spike. Typically there are two Seperate avenues of treatment- hypo salinity or Cupramine...

    Help on selection

One yellow tang shouldn't hurt. I wouldn't put more than two clownfish in the same small tank and definitely make sure they are the same species. For easy low light requirement corals, mushrooms, Xenia, anthellia, zoanthids, palythoa, and other small soft corals.

    112 Gallon Build

All joking aside, You can have an external overflow which is essentially a controlled siphon. It just takes a little planning.

    Sump... sump... sump...

Sure you can use the ten gallon tank. You could use egg crate as a divider in your sump. Egg crate is plastic, and is sold at hardware stores as lighting diffusers. You can cut it easily with side cutters or other tools and silicone it in place with an aquarium safe silicone. GE1 silicone is...

    112 Gallon Build

That's cool. Sumps are fairly easy. I can't post everything on my phone, but there are some good articles on the subject in the articles section of this site. Also, if it's being built from scratch and you have the room under the tank, I suggest going with a larger sump, such as a 55g tank...

    Sump... sump... sump...

The film on top of the water is definitely built up protein and will not go away unless it is skimmed out by a protein skimmer or a surface skimmer and mechanical filtration with water changes. I understand you don't have a lot of room underneath your tank to make a glass or acrylic sump and...

    Gluing rocks?

Here is a pic of my 90g tank back in 2005-2006. All the rock was stacked and not secured. It just fit well together.

    New 75g Reef Tank

I decided to reuse the glass holes overflow box in the front and build a drain box in the back. The reasoning is because I think it will look better and the bulkheads will help support the glass drain box better. I'm going to over engineer it. I'm going to buy the drain box plumbing and take...

    New 75g Reef Tank

I placed it in a low spot in my utility room for easier maintenance. I'm hoping that it will drain properly. If not, then I'll have to re-do it all. Here it is set up... In-line TDS monitoring, pressure guage and a cut off valve at every major stop. :) oh, and the BRS membrane is not hooked...

    New 75g Reef Tank

This weekend, I am going to buy some wood and Styrofoam. I really want to get the refugium stand, the 10g water change reservoir and the 2.5g reserve ATO up and running this weekend. If I can get that stand set up and Styrofoam underneath the sump, I can set up the sump components and...
