    Snake's Guide to Cycling

Lol. MB7 is used by a lot of people these days. I've never really been a fan of bottled bacteria but I think I am going to try it with the new tank.

Advice please on first time breeding of clown fish and anemones

I've been in the hobby since 2005- which is about ten years, give or take. I owned a live fish/coral store back in 2008. Even if I had the capital to propagate coral for an income- I wouldnt. The reason is because there are hundreds / thousands of hobbyists out there that give frags away or...

    New 75g Reef Tank

I cut the last hole this morning and cleaned up some. My wife still hasn't complained. She knows it's all goin to get cleaned up sooner or later. Lol. I tried installing the glass holes overflow this morning but it was at the wrong angle to do it right. That's fine though, I'll install it when...

    New 75g Reef Tank

Yep. I'm drilling the glass before siliconing it up. I was able to cut three and a half holes last night on one battery charge. Gonna do the last hole this morning and clean up the kitchen table. At least my wife hasnt fussed at me yet for the mess. Lol. Silicone is supposed to be delivered...

    New 75g Reef Tank

I just drilled my return hole. I feel like it is seated way too far down and will drain too much water into the sump as it is. I think I'm going to add part of a locline to the vertex spinner and get it closer to the surfice so that I can drill a hole and not have to worry about the siphon so...

Advice please on first time breeding of clown fish and anemones

If I were you, I would stick to it as a hobby for a few years and get good at it and figure out what it takes to propagate coral before going into business doing it. There are many very complex issues to deal with, including chemistry, water quality and livestock issues which you need to learn...

Smaller place, bigger tank...My 200DD build

Nice. Getting it taken care of! I had a long haired chihuahua for a couple of years. I loved that little dog but I had to give it away because we moved into a location that didn't allow pets. I'm ready for you to start QTin some fish man! Whats on your fish list?

    Older Tank... Reseal?

I also recently discovered that there are two types of silicone. One is a sealant - like GE1 that a lot of people use for baffles in sumps and various other projects. The other type of silicone is an adhesive - such as momentive RTV silicone which is used to build glass aquariums. If you are...

need 20 gallon saltwater tank ideas

A pair of clownfish and a large toadstool leather always looked cool to me for a small tank. Easy to maintain too.

    Convince me to downsize

A smaller tank can be a lot cheaper to maintain and a lot easier on the electric bill. If that's all you want to take care of, go for it.

    Need some lights!

Not from what I have seen. A fishes natural colors are those colors that are reflected from the full spectrum of the sun at a certain depth while you are scuba diving. I personally enjoy looking at my fish and corals with more "daylight" than actinic lighting. But that's my personal...

    Need some lights!

Anemones need intense, high quality light to do well long term. Marineland in my honest opinion won't give PAR/PUR values you would need. Quality LED lighting isn't cheap, but neither is T5 or metal halide lighting. There are six to eight bulb T5 HO fixtures they sell for horticulture that...

    New 75g Reef Tank

I'm putting holes in the bottom panel tonight and putting the tank on its side on the table and possibly drilling it this evening if I can hunt up some cardboard and putty. I got to cut the return hole this evening. I didn't realize it, but I cut through tempered glass on one of the ten gallon...

    New 75g Reef Tank

Fits together pretty well. I'm pleased. 1/4" thick glass should be fairly strong and last a long time. Using it in conjunction with momentum RTV silicone adhesive- I don't think it's going anywhere. I even had two triangles cut for extra support.

    Sump... sump... sump...

No, you'll fill your tank and set up your overflow siphon. Then you will add saltwater to the sump up to the max height you want it to hold, giving an inch and a half or so from the top so that you know it won't overflow. Then you turn on your pump and let the water cycle. The water level in the...

    Sump... sump... sump...

The return section of the sump is what will show evaporation. You'll need to modify it and have it in the chamber with your pump.
